Good budget card

Advantages: Good surround sound, cheap, many features
Disadvantages: Optical output problems recording to minidisc

I bought this card about a year ago to replace an integrated motherboard sound chip, which lacked anything other than basic features. Advantages: Complete interface for laptop-djing
Disadvantages: Lightweight and plastic.

Hercules Dj control mp3 is a lightweight and inexpensive midi controller for djing as well as music production. It has 2 volume sliders, one crossfader as well as 6 EQ knobs. M-Audio Fast Track Pro - Great for working with audio on a budget

Advantages: cheap, reliable, portable, easy to use and intuitive
Disadvantages: limited ins and outs, not a lot of leeway for input levels

Advantages: brilliant sofware package, reliable, phantom power
