That's right peeps. Everytime I flip a switch that requires electricity or use an appliance that requires gas, there is immediate activation. So, this company performs WELL!! Ok, but how the heck do you rate Gas and Electric. The supplier either supplies it or they don't right?! Well, there are two lil secrets. And lil Miss Talkative here, intends to tell you about S.E. and how they have mastered these two secrets well!
Secret Number One: Cut to the Chase. Yes Southern Electric has special offers and different rates for different purposes. BUT, they train their salesmen to cut to the chase! (Or at least the salesman I was given behaved like this). I asked a question, and he answered it with no double talk or side stepping. When I asked for the unit price, he gave it. When I asked about the offers, he explained each one, and showed me how each effected the overall cost against the unit cost. Basically, he gave an EXCEPTIONAL REVIEW of the company he was sponsoring. Gave me what I needed, and didn't bother going on. That was THE selling point with me. He made me feel trust. I don't usually TRUST salesmen, especially when they knock on my door unsolicited. But, this man was trustworthy. He started by being very polite without giving the impression of subservience. He was just plain and simply polite, and extremely informative. I signed on that day with pleasure (even though I had just the week before become overwhelmed with searching for companies and SETTLED with a persistent seller).
Secret Number Two: Customer service. As I stated before I had SETTLED with another company as I was overwhelmed by the whole selection process. So, Southern Electric contacted me, and helped me to sort out EVERYTHING to do with the other company. Yeah, of course they did, they wanted the business. BUT, then there was the London Electric business. (The one I wrote a separate review about). Well, they put my name on a 'hot list' of some sort and kept an eye out for me, and EVEN sent me a letter stating that all was clear. Still, that is them making sure they get the business. Well, the final bit was when I called because I wasn't sure of how my bill worked. The ever helpful lady on the phone talked to me (she was some sort of supervisor), and wrote my name down. She then, gave me her name and direct line number, and told me that if I had any other questions to ring her. I did a few times on other issues, (as the lady before me hadn't cleared with the company that she had moved etc), and everytime I needed assistance, I called and was given the info necessary and told, IF THERE IS ANYTHING ELSE YOU NEED, we have your info here, just call and let us know. Then they ALWAYS sent me a follow up letter detailing the outcome of my call and what was in place to sort out the issues of the said conversation!
In Summary: I have been with this company for four years now. And though others have knocked at my door, and I have checked their prices (the first step to winning me over is cheap prices, before we even get to the customer service issues), I have never found ANY that COME CLOSE to that of what I pay at Southern Electric. Also, I have never since had any other G & E rep. come to my door and make me feel the trust that the S.E. man made me feel. And of course, there is that lil fact that when I flip a switch, my lights always come on...so they get my PERFORMANCE rating as well.
Advantages: Hard to think of any Disadvantages: Could end up in Hot Water
...listen to reason but today Southern Electric went straight to the top of the list.
Let me tell you a story.
I have a friend who is Swedish but lives in this country and Southern Electric are her suppliers.
For several years she had paid £ 40 per month for her electricity with no problems whatsoever.
When a friend informed her that it sounded a bit high for a small cottage she contacted Southern Electric who agreed with her and reduced it to £ ... ...another supplier. However Southern Electric think they are outside that scope. If my friend wants to keep her electric supply she has to pay them.
Normally when you make a mistake you have to compromise with your customers - why should this not apply to Southern Electric.
Has anybody else come across this problem and did they get a better service than my friend is getting. Hopefully somebody can help with this one.
Thanks for reading my moan. ...

Advantages: Good prices and good customer service. Disadvantages: Occasionally need chasing up.
...the next salesman came from Southern Electric I was reluctant to listen. However, he was quite persuasive in a non pushy sort of way and told me on the spot what sort of savings I could make. He seemed very upfront with me so I ended up signing up to give them a try. To this day I can still say that this was the most un-intrusive salesman I have come across.
I should probably mention that I pay my bills by Direct Debit and the way that the Southern ... ...them. They did admit that Southern Electric’s electricity was better priced than theirs, but told me that the gas would be cheaper with them. So I ended up keeping my gas with Powergen and changing my electric to Southern.
Years went by and I never had a problem with Southern Electric. Powergen, however, had at some point increased my Direct Debit (without notifying me) and I was paying double what I needed to. When I finally realised what had happened ...

Advantages: pay as you go and no shock bills Disadvantages: have to take key to shop but then go to the shop sometime anyway
We are on Southern Electric but we never have a bill.
A few years ago we swopped over to having a key. This means that we pay for the electricity before we use it.
We do this by taking the key to the local shop and handing it over the counter. They put it in a machine and put on the key however much money we want. A bit like a swipe card for your mobile phone.
We then take it home put it in our meter and hey presto we have electricity for that ... ...shut or we forget. Well then we go on emergency. This means we have £5 worth of electricity that we can use. To "pay it back" we just charge our key when we can plus with an extra £1 and back to normal.
This saves us having bills and not knowing how much it will be. We know exactly how much electricity we use and no bill. We have no callers to read meters either.
This is a great method and you are always in control. ...

Advantages: None that I can think of! Disadvantages: SHOCKING BILLS!, Poor Customer Service!
...quarter for electricity - to Southern Electric. We paid less than this in our old house.
There are 4 people in our household. In November 2008 we recieved a shocking bill for over £1,800. I phoned their Customer Service and they said that our meter had been read in 2005 and now again in 2008 and they had been estimating our bill in those 3 years. Apparently they estimated it low. Firstly, we paid lower than £200 per quarter in our old house [different ... ...provided them answers to the kind of meter we have. Advantages: Very helpful and efficient Disadvantages: None to date
I have been with Southern Electric now for 3 years since moving into a property that unfortunately, has storeage heaters. I decided to go to them because the people we bought the property off recommended them. I was very impressed at the time at how quickly I got through to the Customer Services and set up an account. Advantages: None Disadvantages: If you have the time i'll list them.
We recently moved house, when we arrived we wanted to go with SouthernElectric for both our Gas & Electricity. We signed up to SouthernElectric, and contacted British Gas to tell them of our decision. You of course have freedom to change they said.
Four weeks later we received two letters from SouthernElectric, they said that British Gas had raised objections to the changeover and that we should discuss this with them.
We contacted British Gas who claimed that despite us not causing the massive bill left by the previous occupier, they had been unable to locate the previous residents and as a result were objecting so they gained revenue from the loss.
We quoted them the freedom to change information they had told us, but it was no good, there stance was that all we could do to remove this was to take it through the court ...

Like most people, we've been feeling the pinch of the soaring gas and electricity prices. I tend to procrastrinate and leave things, but even I had to act when SouthernElectric put their prices up by 19%. As you've probably guessed, we switched to EDF, hence this review.
Who are EDF?
EDF stands for Electricite de France, a French company that bought London Energy, Seeboard Energy and SWEB Energy, making them suppliers of energy to people living in Southern England. They are quite "green" in that they are one of the largest developers of off-shore wind-farms in the UK, and of course they import nuclear power into Britain from their nuclear power stations in Northern France.
How do you sign up?
I first heard of EDF through Nectar. I received an e-mail from Nectar which offered 5000 Nectar Points (worth £25) if you took out ...

Have never chosen to use this supplier (after the performance of moving to a house previously supplied by them for both gas & electricity) & never will!
Moved house, as you do, last April. NPower were used by the previous occupants but we'd not dealty with them, heard questionnable things about them, so opted to change supplier ASAP after getting the keys!
We signed up with SouthernElectric straight away (these guys aren't angels either but at least are good to deal with) but these things are never instant, so a few weeks later (May 19th) NPower ceased to have anything to do with the property. However, as per usual the marketing began with the begging that happens whenever you leave one of these it seems! Charges needed to be settled understandably & we received & paid the closing bill at the end of June.
So, a successful ...
