The human body requires all forms of vitamins and minerals in order for it to function properly and to its fullest potential.

Many of us unknowingly suffer from deficiencies of some of these important vitamins and minerals.

As with the case of Iron the symptoms of deficiencies are; tiredness, fatigue and general lack of stamina. These are the initial symptoms and later if the intake is not corrected symptoms of deficiency include; breathlessness, giddiness, headaches, dim vision, insomnia, loss of appetite, indigestion, restless legs and tingling fingers and toes.

Iron is required by the body to make haemoglobin and therefore lack of iron causes low production of blood and thus all these symptoms.

There are many iron supplements and medications around and the most common of these are ferrous sulphate tablets. Iron is also an integral part of multi vitamin preparations and therefore the problem of deficiency can easily be tackled by making sure that you take such medication and/or eat foods that are high in iron content.

Good sources of iron include liver, beef, wholemeal bread, cereals, egg and dried fruit. Personally I do not suffer from an iron deficiency as my diet provides me with more than enough iron. However my wife on the other hand does and it is a combination of several factors that have caused her to have this deficiency.

First of all her diet is mostly vegetarian. She is not a vegetarian but her liking for meats are very limited and include only chicken and fish. Since it is already in a solution you can have it directly. Alternatively you can add the contents to regular water or to juice if you require.

My wife says that the taste is metallic but I would think that this is purely physiological considering that this is actually mineral water with an unusually high content of iron. She usually has hers with orange juice first thing in the morning with breakfast.

As far as pricing goes this is quite expensive with the box of 28 sachets sold at £6.49.

These are not available at all pharmacies. Rather you will find them at the larger shops like Boots.

Spatone Iron+ is targeted mainly at those people that suffer complications from iron intake. Naturally this must be a common occurrence considering the quantities being sold here and worldwide.

For most of us, including myself, regular consumption of the foods containing high levels of iron is enough. For others iron tablets and multivitamins are an alternative.
