Puzzling
Review of Tsunami: Japanese Logic Puzzles by 87degrees

Advantages: fun, exercises the mind, varying difficulty levels
Disadvantages: not available everywhere

In recent years, I think mainly due to a disasterous tsunami of the giant wave variety, tsunami puzzles seem to have undergone a name change. The puzzles I once thought were called tsunami can now be found in WH Smiths in monthly puzzle magazines, calling themselve hanjie. These are my favourite form of logic problem, and I've tried many. What you have is a grid. On each row and each column are a series of numbers, for example 5 7 or 1 1 8. A row ...
...squares, then 5 coloured squares, then at least one white square, then 7 coloured squares, ending with an unknown number of white squares. Similarly, a column labelled 1 1 8 will have a single coloured square, then another, then eight coloured squares, with an unknown number of white squares between and on either side of them. The purpose of the puzzle is to use logic to work out which squares must be coloured and which must be blank, revealing a ... Read review

Wanna Be A Winner?
Review of Compers News by ktcov

Advantages: Loads of comps and tips!
Disadvantages: Boring layout - but is that important?

My addiction began when I was just 16. It was the Summer Holidays, and I was desperate for something to do. Some teenagers hang around on street corners smoking and boozing. Not me: I stayed at home and it was there my addiction began... No, no, no - my addiction wasn't detrimental to my health (well, not really) and hasn't (yet) needed hospital treatment or anything like that. It began thanks to my PC, but it has since been taken to new levels. ...
...really into the band the Stereophonics at that point, so I was probably reading an interview on there or something). On there was a competition to win Flaming Lips goodies (another band). I liked them, but wasn't their greatest fan, but decided I had nothing to lose by entering. I had soon forgotten about this - until a parcel arrived on my birthday, as it happened. I couldn't think what it was: it might have been my birthday, but that didn't mean ... Read review

Riveting Reading
Review of Spirit & Destiny Magazine by gypsyangel

Advantages: See op

Spirit and Destiny first came to my attention a couple of years ago when a friend gave me her old copy of the magazine.I was instantly hooked. This is not just your usual monthly mag it has much more to offer. Spirit & Destiny has many different sections to appeal to different readers. There is a destiny and beyond section which, this month, includes Chinese horoscopes,an article on reading auras and the magazines resident white witch offering simple ...
...by far, the mind, body and spirit section. There are articles on holistic health and alternative therapies as well as food news, whats new with health matters and a dream section. They are always very well written ,useful and highly informative. Spirit & Destiny also includes fashion pages, agony aunts and competions. The magazine costs £2.90 a month.I used to buy mine from Asda as it was sometimes difficult to get hold of in smaller newsagents.I have ... Read review

The only issue is why are you not reading this
Review of The Big Issue Magazine by fuzzybear967

Advantages: Good quality of writing
Disadvantages: Need to pass by a seller

...magazine that is sold by the homeless and the idea is that rather than begging it gives them the ability to earn money from a legitimate source and hopefully provide an escape route away from living on the streets or hostels and to get back to leading what most of society would term a normal existence. They purchase the magazine from the company and then keep any profit they make on the sales achieved. It is sold on the high street by the vendors. ...
...around the country and can easily be spotted by their identification badge, I also find them very friendly and certainly not pushy when it comes to selling the magazine, they do take a pro active approach but it is only ever an invite to buy and is not pushy or intrusive on people. The great thing is that the product they sell is actually very good and makes for an interesting read. Published weekly it is full of interesting articles on world events ... Read review

Country Walker? Get Country Walking Magazine
Review of Country Walking Magazine by mcc28

Advantages: Price, the walks, features and photography
Disadvantages: One or two superflous features, some of the results of the gear tests

...above questions is yes, then Country Walking could be just the magazine your looking for. The magazine is published monthly at a cost of £3.70 per issue or if you choose to subscribe 12 issues for £31.50 which is about £2.63 per issue. The magazine has a mixture of reviews, features, exclusive interviews, letters and of course walking routes all of which are complemented by some excellent photographs of the great British countryside. I have been ...
...pages highlighting areas in the country where the theme can be accessed. For example the theme in November's issue centers around 'Wildlife Walks' hence the feature looks at the New Forest (Ponies) and Devon (Otters). These articles are normally quite interesting and often contains some captivating images. The magazine contains an 'Advice' section which is again linked to the theme of the magazine. So the recent edition offers advice on tracking ... Read review
