Yes real ... more
Firstly let me say that yes trafic mesures do need to be put into place.I live on a main road that as a national speed limit on it,its a residental area, but the one speed camera on it is at the end of the road going into town.Where the traffic has to slow down anyway due to congestion 90% of the time and where the speed limit goes to 40.So cars come down the road sometimes at 80+ then brake for the cameras.Whats the point? This is the problem with most speed cameras, people know where thay are and slow down for them, then speed up between them. Haveing been in the motor trade for over 22years,i feel i can safely say this is one of the main causes of pollution constant slowing down and then speeding up.Not to mention the fact most people spend more time looking for cameras than thay do looking where thay are going. Speed humps cause the same problem of drivers slowing right down then speeding up.There are loads of speed humps around the back in the village where i live, and also around the outskirts of town.I am a self employed mechanic and over the past two years i have lost count of the number of bottom arms, steering racks and track rod ends i have fitted.I should be pleased that the goverment insist that these monstrosatys are a good thing. Yes real pleased my £600 cd changer as got shaken to bits over time.Pleased that i have to replace my bottom arms every six months.Im not a boy racer any longer at the age of 38 but my car is lowerd and there dents in my sills to prove it as there is no way i can aviod the humps and the slower i try to go other them the more my car bottoms out. Then theres the cost of the things £2000+ each, then the cliams to local councils for damage thay cause, well into the £100,000s,per town.Surly this money could be better spent.Bring back proper policeing for one and scrap all the speed humps and cameras.Id sooner look at a phone maskt myself than a hump in the road or a bright yellow box,at least there usefull. If speed humps work then why o why dont thay put them in sencible places ie outside schools? The ones hid in dips on 40mph roads are just dam right dangerous. The number of times that i have been dazzled by someones headlamps both on comeing and in the rear view mirror is just beond a joke aswell.
Advantages: Slow doen traffic Disadvantages: Cause damage to your car
...be surprised!
Compared to speed cameras, speed humps are definately the better option in my opinion.
Firstly, speed humps actually do slow down the traffic and don't leave you financially ruined in the process. Also they are positioned where they are needed i.e. outside schools, shopping centres, anywhere there are lots of peolpe in close proximity to the roads. And once they are there they stay there, they don't keep popping up in random places ... ...they are there (so people know they have to slow down) unlike the unmarked Volvo T5's cruising the motorways.
Now having said that I do have to have a bit of a moan, there are two main types of hump that I have come across - the raised section across the entire width of the road, and the little squares plonked in the middle of each lane. I personally hate the little square ones, apart from the fact that they are completely useless to bigger vehicles ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Speed Humps"
The springing up of speedhumps across my local borough has prompted me to write a review on the "Hated Hump".
I belive that they should be placed outside schools and around Parks and Playgrounds, but not all over the place.
I belive that they slow down the emergancy services and cause damage to cars. But all this flys in the face of SPEED KILLS, Wrong, stupid @#%!hole's who drive without consideration kill!.
It seem's local councils can find thousands of pounds to pay contractors to install Humps and close roads but can not find money to improve peoples housing needs or invest in parks and open spaces.
Yes to sensable placeing of Humps and No to mass covering of tarmac tables all over the place. ...
Advantages: Good Looking, Cheap, Safe, Easy to Drive Disadvantages: Suspension, Minor Inconveniences
would be the location of the seat adjustment, the rear panel one seems a bit stiff and the seat heigh adjustment, which is on the outside of the chair, is easily pressed when getting in and out of the car. The car is quite high up so it becomes difficult for the elderly to get in.
Also, there is a rattling that can be heard outside the car and when the windows are down. This sounds like something is being dragged along the floor, however i could not find the cause.
The main problem i find would be the suspension. It is not the most comfortable ride especially over speedhumps and bumps.
all in all, i havent had any major problems with the car in the 5 years driving it. Great car overall ...

Advantages: Fun, nimble and cheap to run. Japanese reliability Disadvantages: Not a lot of boot or storage space but thats not what these cars are about
MX5 Mk 1 - a drivers car with the flexibility to poodle along or have a bit of fun as the mood takes you. I have seen a few quotes about being under powered and heavy on fuel. They are neither if driven properly ! True it is not outstandly fast which wont appease the hot hatch boy racer brigade but let them go and have their accident somewhere else ! Driven progressively but sensibly I have found mine responds beautifully, is great fun and returns very respectable fuel consumption. General comfort is quite good and noise not too bad even on the motorway - roof up or down. What is particularly good is the way the car's firm suspension copes so well with the curse of modern driving - speedhumps. As for going round bends - WHAT bend ? Apart from routine maintainance, the car is getting old so a few odds and ends need replacing from ...
