Advantages: True 5.1 surround sound, clear quality, built in mic. Disadvantages: Not very durable and breaks easily.
Theres not many headsets out there that can say they have full 5.1 surround sound. The medusa5.1 pulls this off very well and is a fantastic headset for gaming.
Let me start of with the packaging. The headset is wonderfully packaged inside the box. Complete with soft lining and ribbon to finnish. A nice surprise. It comes with all the cables that you need, and more that I couldn't work out what they were for.
Set up was a little tricky and the manual that it came with wasn't the most helpful. After about an hour or so of fiddling with the cables and doing sound checks I managed to get the 5.1 working, including the microhpone.
The quality you get from the headphones is great. Crisp sounds and a decent level of volume. Obviously the 5.1 isn't as distinguished as a full set of surround sound speakers will ever be, but it does ...
Advantages: good quality at a low price Disadvantages: headband a bit heavy
:
Capacitor microphone: dia. 9.7mm
Directionality: omnidirectional
Impedance: 2200 Ω
Sensitivity: -60dB ± 2 dB
Frequency response: 30Hz-16kHz
Working voltage: 4.5V
After having this headset for over a year now I can say this is really good quality and superb sound. I use it for playing games, watching films or listening to music, it has been used on a daily basis for about 2hrs a day and has been for over a year. It has most of the cables you need to attach to other devices or simply use on your hi-fi without the amplifier used.
The are 2 types of these headphones, the one I got and the usb version. Unable to comment on the usb one but this one is fantastic.
There's no real disadvantages but the headband can be a bit heavy/tight on your head but not enough to be uncomfortable.
When I bought it, it cost me £40 but ...
Advantages: Control box to switch between 5.1 Speakers and the 5.1 headset, Excelent sound, Cheap Disadvantages: Bulky, No microphone
aswell as switch to speaker mode and back by the push of a button.
-Conclusion-
At this moment in time i highly recommend these if you are looking for a 5.1headset for either gaming and general PC usage, however I still feel there is a better 5.1headset product out there that I still havn't found, i have tryed the Speedlink Medusa but was highly disapointed and sent it back. If i dont find a better headset soon I will be buying another pair of these as they are fanastic but I would just like to try something new with perhaps a few better features.
If you do buy these make sure you goto the windows controll panel>Sounds and audio devices> under the 'Speaker Settings' title click advanced, and change the speaker setup to 5.1 surround sound speakers, failing to do this will mean your 5.1headset is still only running at 2.1 ...
