The Spice Lounge is the only curry house that I would take someone to on the first date. The whole place ozzes class and style.
Unlike other curry houses in Norwich, this is a curry restaurant. Walking down Wensum Street you can't help ... ...to be expected since the Spice Lounge has only been open for a few months.
The smell upstairs is fantastic. You can tell that you are in a curry restaurant, but unlike other curry houses in Norwich the smell is not too over powering.

Unlike other curry houses in Norwich, this is a curry restaurant. Walking down Wensum Street you can't help but notice the neon blue lights screaming 'look at me'.
The entrance is spacious, and very modern. As you walk in to the left is a seating area and to the right is the bar. The entrance is large enough for your group to congregate and chat whilst waiting for the stragglers - without getting in the way of other diners.
This is the only curry restaurant that I have ever been in that actually takes your coat to a cloakroom!
The dining area is upstairs. The furniture is modern and the chairs are large, high back, leather seats that are very comfortable. The decor is modern, but then this is to be expected since the Spice Lounge has only been open for a few months.

The atmosphere is very relaxed with soft lighting and soft music. The night I went there it was full of couples and small (quiet) parties. I don't think it is a place where large, rowdy groups would go and try and eat the chili fahl for a 'dare' whilst swilling down 10 pints of lager, being loud, rude, foul mouthed and abnoxious in the process.
The menu is your typical Indian cuisine. There is nothing special - or out of the ordinary on there. The prices are very reasonable, and it is not just the food that is reasonablly priced - the drinks are too!
The food is fantastic, if not a little weak. It is very tasty none the less. A mild curry is very mild - hence it being an ideal place for a first date - and ideal for those (like me) with weak guts but who like a curry.
The rice is cooked to perfection, the naan breads do not arrive burnt to a crisp and there is no evident layer of grease floating on top of the curry. Even the bomaby potatoes and samosas are less greasy than other places.
The portion sizes are large enough for the biggest eaters.
The staff are friendly, prompt and there is always service with a smile. There are no excessive waiting times - even at the busiest periods. However, even if there is a wait it is one of those places that it is nice to sit there and chat for a while.
The toilets are clean and regularly checked - unlike other places I can think of!
At the end of the meal, you walk outside and guess what? There is no strong curry smell!! You can actually go in to a pub/bar or club and not have to worry that you smell like a chicken balti.
The Spice Lounge is the ideal place for a date or for an intimate night with friends. I would not recommend it if you are out for a lads night with plenty of beer and banter.

Quick review of Spice Lounge, Norwich
Having enjoyed Indian cuisine since being a student in London in the 1960's (when there were no more than half a dozen curry restaurants in the whole of the capital to choose from!) and being now the wrong side of 60, I can say with some authority, that I know my curry!
The Spice Lounge is undoubtedly the best I have ever been to and after every visit continues to hold that accolade.
Superb food, wonderful ambiance, the best possible service and reasonable prices combine to provide a tip top eating experience every time.
I should perhaps confirm that I have no connection with the Spice Lounge other than as a truly satisfied customer!

Went here by chance and was very impressed!
From the layout to the mega friendly staff, coats taken, shown to tables, instant drinks, starters came within 10 minutes....
Great varied menu, atmosphere excellent, very modern and chic inisde! Decorated to a very high standard.
We loved it that much we went back the week after. Am having my birthday meal here also, even though we live in Great Yarmouth that has more Indians than India!!
Great for friends/family meals plus dates and romantic meals!
Overall Top Restaurant! ...
