==~What is Bakugan?~==
Bakugan is one of the latest crazes marketed mainly towards young boys of around 5-8 in my opinion. The programme is a Japanese action animated series. A Bakugan is a spheric action figure warrior, around the same size as a bouncy ball. When activated by their leader, the spheric balls open up to unleash dragon style characters to defeat evil and protect their core.

~What is Bakugan?~
Bakugan is one of the latest crazes marketed mainly towards young boys of around 5-8 in my opinion. The programme is a Japanese action animated series. A Bakugan is a spheric action figure warrior, around the same size as a bouncy ball. When activated by their leader, the spheric balls open up to unleash dragon style characters to defeat evil and protect their core. Sound complicated? It is! My 6 year old understands far better than me what the game is about, though my knowledge is increasing slowly! Bakugan action figures are available in many different colours and when opened up each dragon is a different style.
Bakugans can be brought as singular figures or in packs, though they are not cheap. A single Bakugan and two cards will cost £4.99, so if your child wants the complete set of Bakugans, you may wish to re-mortgage your house as there are loads to choose from.
Each Bakugan has its own name such as Hydronoid, Dragonoid, Skyrus, Apollonir and Delta Dragonoid. Each Bakugan is part of a set which is controlled by a child in the programme. Each child is responsible for a coloured set which they activate when danger approaches in order to defeat evil.
~Bakugan Battle Pack~
A Bakugan Battle pack will set you back around £19.99 in most high street stores and supermarkets. However you may be able to get it cheaper on the internet should you have time to shop around. This pack contains 6 x Bakugan and 6x cards. The metallic gate cards are how you open up your Bakugan. Your child simply rolls the sphere onto the metallic gate card and the spring loaded mechanism opens up on its own to reveal your childs Bakugan which is actually quite clever and impressive.
The battle packs are available with different Bakugans in so you can pick and choose which pack you purchase to avoid getting a pack which contains a Bakugan already owned by your child, though be warned some catalogue stores such as Argos may only keep certain packs in and you can’t see which pack you are getting until you have purchased it, so you may want to check this before you buy to see which Bakugans are in the pack to avoid duplicates.
For me the battle pack isn’t bad value for money and if Bakugan interests your child then it will keep them happy for hours. There are hundreds of different gate and ability cards so they are unlikely to get duplicates in their battle pack, however if they do I suggest they swap them with friends if possible, then you have not wasted your money.
The Bakugan craze is becoming more and more popular and many of the items are ridiculously overpriced so if your child does show an interest then I recommend the battle pack. You do get quite a lot for your money in comparison to other packs available and they are easy to get hold of aswell.
The battle pack can be used in two ways. It can be used just as a way for your child to play and pretend they are a Bakugan leader, which encourages imagination and creative play, but it can also be used as a game to play with friends. Younger children will tend to use it as just an imagination game, whereas older children will understand the concept of the actual game better.
The game itself is controlled by the cards which come with the Bakugan. Each card has a series of numbers down the side which you then try and beat each other with. It has a similar concept to top trump cards, where the highest number will win. Each battle pack comes complete with instructions on how to play the proper game, though as said previously this is more aimed at the older children and is too complicated for younger children.
Summary
If your child has shown an interest in this latest craze, then I recommend a Bakugan Battle Pack as a gift. It gives them a good start into the Bakugan world and contains enough pieces and cards for them to be able to play a good game and battle either on their own or with friends. At £19.99 it doesn't make it the cheapest toy on the market but it is better value than the singular Bakugans. A bizarre craze that I haven't completely got to grips with yet, but kids seem to love it and therefore if you are the parent of a young boy, you may find yourself being very popular if you turn up with a Bakugan Battle Pack at Christmas.
