Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer is the second of the three Spyro games. I have played demos of all three games and I have to say that the standard of them is excellent. Spyro is a great game especially as it is the first they brought out, Spyro 2 was an improvement and is far better than the first and Spyro 3 of course is the best of the lot. Spyro 2 is still a good game to play and it would probably be worth it to get all three games.
This adventure begins with Spyro going on vacation to Dragon Shores. He is interrupted though and he is sent to Avalar where Ripto and his evil gang of creatures are trying to take it over.
In this game the idea is to collect all the gems and orbs from all the different worlds, which then leads to you having to stop Ripto. You receive orbs for completing various puzzles and tasks. As well as gems and orbs in the first two worlds you need to collect talismans from each place you visit. The main object of the game is to defeat the evil Ripto and his gang and save Avalar.
Along your journey through the three worlds you will not be alone. The people who brought Spyro to Avalar help you along the way and give you hints of what to do. Hunter, Professor and Elora are the people who you are saving from Ripto.
When your playing this game you will see a dragonfly flying around Spyro, she helps you throughout the game by picking up the gems for you, but she also has a much more important role in the game. She indicates how many more hits you can take before you die:
Gold: 3 hits left Blue: 2 hits left Green: 1 hit left
To keep her yellow you need to kill things like sheep, bugs etc. Once they have been killed they release a butterfly, which she eats and changes colours. You may also see blue butterflies in glass bottles, smashing the bottles will release that butterfly and when she east it you get an extra life.
Zoë the fairy is another character that you will come across throughout the game. She is there to aid you with advice, plus she zaps you at set points so if you manage to get yourself killed you will restart at the same place where she zapped you.
Money Bags I one of the worst characters in this game and he really gets annoying. There are certain obstacles in your way which you need to get past and the only answer is to pay money bags tog et rid of it e.g. it could be a wall in the way or you need to get across a bridge. You have to pay gems for these things as well and the way he does it is just so cheeky. He does teach you things as well though which is good but you still have to pay. He teaches you how to climb, do a head bash and swim.
There are many sections in each of the three worlds and many of them underwater or even hidden! Nevertheless your friends are there to guide you so they can actually be straightforward to get to.
In each world you must kill many enemies. Problem is you cannot flame all of them. Some you can only kill by head butting them, or head butting over a cliff or even into lava. There is one level where you must push them onto the X so that the other creatures can kill him.
On each level there are orbs to collect. To get the orbs though you have to find one of the people you are helping and talk to them, they will then give you instructions on what to do. On some of the challenges you must have killed enough enemies for the special power up to become active.
The special power up allows you to fly, have huge fireball etc for a limited time but every time you go through the power up then your time starts over. Once you have killed an enemy then you see the dead spirit thing, which is released go up into the corner and a number come up. The number is the amount of enemies you have killed and you need to match that with the on the power up. You can keep check by accessing your inventory
I have been talking about the three worlds or Spyro 2 and yet you may know nothing about them, so I am going to take you through them.
The very first place you start is in the level Glimmer of summer forest. Once this level is complete then you are in Summer Forest, which is world one. On each world there are levels in which you have to help save whatever people are on that level and get the talismans from them. They give you the talismans because you helped save them. To be able to fight the boss at the end of this level you must have collected al talismans from each level. The best thing to do is to try to get 100% complete on each of the levels. To see what percentage you have already on the level just pass the game and go to the guidebook. To get 100% you need to get all 400 gems, talisman and all orbs from that level. If you manage to get 100% on as many levels as possible as you go through this will save you back tracking when you need to get the orbs.
Once you have been through summer forest and defeated the boss you arrive at autumn plains. Autumn plains has many more levels to go through, but the principle is the same, get the talismans and defeat the boss at the end of the level.
The third and almost final world is Winter Tundra. Now this level is very annoying if you have not taken my advice of getting as many 100% as possible. To start with three portals are open, which you can go through. On these levels there is a slight difference instead of getting talismans for helping you receive orbs. To unlock the next to portal you will need to be in possession or 15 and 25 orbs. If you are not then you will need to go back and get them. To fight Ripto though you will need 40 orbs!!! Once you have defeated him though the game is over or is it?………………………………………
Nope luckily for us the game is not over and there is a bonus world at the end and it is called Dragon shores. Once again to get into the world you need to have 8,000 gems and 55 orbs!!!!! I have not had the luck of getting this many orbs yet so it may take me a while.
The puzzles involved to get the orbs can range from saving baby turtles from a chef, to flaming all the statues whit the evil spirit and some of them are just stupidly easy I can’t do them unless its by fluke.
On some of the levels you may not be able to get 100% and therefore will need to revisit them and the reasons why are because you need the following skills: Swimming: This skill is used loads in this game, it also make it very hard to kill things or actually move. You do get the hang of it after a while but I hate water because it slows you down.
Climbing: This skill is very useful because you need it to get some of the orbs, just like swimming. You can only climb up the ladders and they normally leads to gems and orbs!
Head Bash: You do not actually get this until Winter Tundra I think. Any way it is pretty useless and not used very much but it is fun to perform it.
You may be thinking this game is just for kids and therefore it is going to be rubbish, but I am afraid to say if you think that then you are wrong. Anyone of any age can play this and find it very exciting. It is a good game and very well thought out. Even the graphics you pretty smart especially or a Playstation, it is also very addictive.
For £14.99 this platinum game is a real bargain and you should try your hardest to buy it or at least try it out. There is nothing quite like a dragon with attitude.
To anyone who has got this game at the language screen hold R1 and L2 buttons in and then press square button, the screen goes blank and then after a little while the demo for crash team racing comes up with is also another fabulous game.
Advantages: longer game play, more complexities Disadvantages: having the cost of a new control pad when you throw it in frustration every time you play.
...than before and after completing Spyro (1), I had to buy Spyro 2 - Gateway to Glimmer. This time Spyro and Sparx have gone on holiday to Dragon Shores. To get there he uses a magic gateway however, unknown to Spyro, Avalar is under attack by Ripto and his sidekicks Crush and Gulp. 3 of the inhabitants of Avalar, Elora, Hunter and The Professor are hiding out in Glimmer where they build a magic gateway in the hope of getting help off a dragon. Of ... ...into Avalar - Spyro of course - well if he didn't then we wouldn't have a game now would we!!
In this adventure, Sparx is able to eat the small animals to restore his health, like he did in the first Spyro but this time every time he eats twenty or so of the butterflies, he will give Spyro a new life making it harder for Spyro to die - yipee!!! Longer gameplay!!
We also meet up with the 3 new characters throughout game play and of course, Ripto, ...

Advantages: Better graphics, more challenges, new moves and ideas Disadvantages: Rather easy to complete I felt
I loved Spyro the Dragon 1 and when Spyro 2 came out I desperately wanted to get (bear in mind I'm 15!!)it, but had no money, so I was very pleasaed when I got home from a weekend away to discover my baby sister had got it! I immediately settled in to play on it. With 3 new moves - swim, headbash and climb Spyro takes on a whole new dimension. With a bigger, badder enemy, and more diffcult in between enemies too it was more of a challenge. The idea ...

Advantages: In-depth, for all ages Disadvantages: Very child-like looking, not as big as Spyro 3
Although this game will have been found by you in the Kids section, it is one of the greatest platformers of all time, and is enjoyable for All Ages. It was given 10 out of 10 in the Playstation Magazine, and is my favourite platformers across all the consoles I own.
The game, although decieveingly simple and child-like, is so full of depth and imagination that it takes even the most avid game-player at least 10 hours to complete, and a young child ... ...25 levels in which there are a number of tasks that need to be performed by the loveable purple dragon.
The game, released in 1999, now has another sequel, making it a trilogy collection and also a predecessor. However, it goes further in-depth than the original, and is better value for money than the original and so is therefore very worthwhile indeed. A definite must. ...

Advantages: Excellent graphics, ideas, long playability and enjoyment Disadvantages: More levels perhaps?
Spyro 2 is a great improvement on the first one. A fan of the first version anyway, I was delighted when this sequel came out. With more moves, longer playability and better graphics, sounds, enemies and ideas, what more could I ask for? The old idea of freeing dragons was thrown out the window, and instead there were sets of tasks that needed to be completed in order to gain an orb. Orbs and level talismans(obtained by completing the level itself) ...
