Squier Affinity Hello Kitty Strat

Advantages: Great neck. Real wood. It's a Fender!
Disadvantages: Cheap pickups and machine heads.

...The Squier Affinity Strat represents amazing value for money. For about a hundred quid you get a strat endorsed by Fender with a great neck. This is a guitar streets ahead of all those cheap Chinese copies (which you should definitely avoid!)… but it's not all good news, a couple of cheap components let an otherwise great guitar down. There are hundreds of strat clones out there but all they do is form a mountain of plywood trash… forget them. There is only one decent copy of the Fender Strat and that is Fender's own Squier Strat with alder body and maple neck. I bought one recently to experiment on. It was only supposed to be a cheap guitar for me to practice setting up, adjusting the truss rod on etc. but I ended up loving it. ...I first started learning on a Squier Affinity Strat. I found at first that mine seemed heavy and sounded dull. After a good clean and plugging into a decent amp it took me a while to put it back down. The affinity gives off a nice vibrant sound when played on an amp with gain. As i am a fan of the strat stylei like the look of the Afinity Strat. Strings, Pick-ups, Tremelo's and all the accessories you may want are relativly easy to get hold of in most music shops and web sites. Things i like about the Affinity; *decent fretboard * Clean sound on the pick-ups * Easy to maintain and change parts/strings. * Great sound when played on amps with gain. Things i dont like about the Affinity; * Heavy and bulky when you start learning with one. * Can have a problem with amp connections.... Read review

Nowadays I've seen it priced at £206 on Amazon, but I think it is possible to find it at a lower price. www.imusician.co.uk has Affinity Strat (not Standard) packs at £139.99 that include a small 15-watt amplifier, stating that the RRP is £199. Stores usually make a deal where you buy the guitar and it comes with a gig bag and a small amplifier and cable. It's pretty standard, so if you go to a store and they don't automatically offer you this, ask them if they will. This is a wonderful guitar, and recommended for those who are learning to play, or for more serious musicians on a budget.
