I have owned the p-special for about 1 year now. One of the main advantage this bass has is it’s relative cheapness. I picked mine out right out of the manufacturer’s packaging (in other words brand new) for £200. There may be instruments that are cheaper, but the quality of the instrument outweighs the cost. Being a sub-company of Fender, You can imagine that it is of a reasonable quality. You’d be more or less right. The pickups are of good quality (both precision and the jazz). The instrument has a powerful sound even when playing it acoustically, probably because of the type of wood used in it’s construction. There are however problems with the instrument. Firstly, I do not like the way that they constructed the body. Removing the finger board reveals that there is a gaping space round the pickups and the electronics are attached to the fingerboard, meaning that you cannot tale the fingerboard off without a) making the instrument look completely ridiculous and b) letting all the electronics, including the controls, dangle out of the body. Also, There is something very wrong with the neck. While I have had my instrument, I have never done anything to adversely bend the neck, yet when I came around to tightening the action down, I noticed that the neck had gone very concave (it was bowing inwards). This meant that I had to tighten it before adjusting the action. I tightened the neck, tightened the strings again only to find that the next had gone back to its previous position. I have, as yet, failed to fix the problem. Also, the action is very loose. This instrument is good for someone’s first instrument, but bared the hallmarks of a mass produced, low quality instrument.

The QCs at the Squire plants want shooting. Was it a Chinese Squire Affinity or a Korean Squire? There is a hell of a difference in the two. Some very useful warnings about the build quality which folk should know - good one!
