The Modern St James Park. ------------------------- In the heart of the city of Newcastle, stands this towering structure. It is home to Newcastle United Football Club, and their loyal supporters.
I was seated in the Sir John Hall stand, formerly known as the 'Leazes End'.The name was changed in honour of Sir John Hall,he was a director of the club and a geordie.Sir John also owns the Metrocentre in Gateshead, which I'm sure you have all heard of.
The stand is segregated into 4 levels. All of which have catering facilities,a bar,and toilets. The family enclosure is situated in this stand, and has facilities for the disabled.
In total this stand alone holds 19.252 people.
The old West Stand, is now known as the 'Milburn Stand'.This houses the Platinum club and bar 1892.It also holds the Directors Box and the Press Box.
The East Stand has the same facilities as the Sir John Hall Stand.
Then you have the 'Gallowgate End',now known as the 'Newcastle Brown Ale stand'.I consider this to be the loudest part of the ground. It has the same facilities as the Sir John Hall Stand, but also includes a club shop, and a Police Station.
The staduim holds 52.193 fans
The Pitch. ----------- The pitch measures 105x68 metres.
The History (the long bit) ----------- Football was first played on the turf in 1880.The ground is the oldest in the north east.It was once home to 3 clubs.Newcastle Rangers,Newcastle West End and Newcastle East End.The 3 clubs merged in 1892 and became Newcastle United.
In 1898 the club was promoted to the first division.A big effort was made by the club to develop the stadium. In 1899 the capacity of the ground was 30.000.
In 1905 the ground was again rebuilt and on opening housed 60.000.At this time it was said to be the best ground in the country.
1985,was the year of the Bradford City fire disaster. All grounds in the country came under vigourous inspection. The Club was forced to demolish the West Stand, because it was considered unsafe.Work began on a new 5 million structure. This was named the 'Milburn Stand'.Named after Jackie Miburn, one of the greatest ever players for Newcastle United. It was opened in 1987.
In 1992 along came Sir John Hall, which gave the club some much needed financial backing.Work started immediatly and a new 37.000 all seater stadium was unveiled in 1995.
In 2000 work was completed to bring the ground to what it is now.An impressive sight and a landmark of the region.
Travel -------- Getting to the ground is easy, you can see it for miles. The easiest way is to take the Metro. You can get it from almost anywhere in the city straight to the ground,
Parking ------- The ground has ample parking space.Traffic is heavy in the city though,so it is quicker to use public transport.
Food ----- The food is a little expensive.2 pounds for a mince pie,and 1 pound for a coffee. It is however probably the same at all grounds.
Stewards -------- Very Helpful, pleasant and good at their job.
Prices of Tickets ----------------- Ticket prices range depending on where you are seated. You can pay as little as 16 pounds,to as much as 38 pounds.
Smoking ----------------- You can smoke in the ground if you wish. Final Word ----------
St James Park is clean, tidy, friendly and has a brilliant atmosphere. It is very loud(but thats a good thing isnt it?).
Advantages: Great Ground, Great City, Great Supporters Disadvantages: Away fans are high up
...takes it’s toll. St James Park is clearly visible once you get into Newcastle as its towering stands are clearly visible on the skyline. What’s more surprising is the fact that the ground is located quite close to the centre of the city. The journey towards it throws up some good sights such as the angel of the north, the bridge and generally nice architecture. The ground itself is very impressive and holds over 50,000. What makes it even better ... ...were £30, which is the norm for Premier League and to be honest it was worth it for a great game and a great night. St James Park is a credit to Newcastle, the Premier League and it’s supporters deserve some sort of silverware in the near future. ...

St james park is without doubt one of the best stadium in the country. The only stadium i know which is better is old trafford(Good job none of my friends are on this because i will probably get beaten up for saying that!!!).The massive 52,000 seater stadium dwarfs the old 36,000 seats of last season. There is one thing that i liked more about the stadium before it was upgraded and that is that it used to be tight which meant it used to be a good ... ...jump on the metro to St James park. The visabiltiy at the stadium is good but i inform you if you sit at the top you will need good eyes. The services at the stadium of the stewards and the police are excellent as they have proved this season in matches against our rivals middlesborugh, sunderland and man utd. The parking is good outside the stadium and there is no real trouble with things happening to your car. The food is good but it should be for ...

one of newcastles best features is their new multi million pound expansion to their stadium. they also look to be in better form this season, after finally getting rid of the useful duncan ferguson and having alan shearer looking sharp again.their new signing cordone also looks like a very good one and could turn out to be bargain of the season with the start he has made.the magpies also have the workhorse gary speed who also looks in fine form and the general feeling around st.jamespark is a good one.the young kieron dyer also looks impressive, and i think on this form they will manage a european spot this season. ...

Advantages: Exciting, attacking football Disadvantages: Can't seem to hang on to players
I'm a Newcastle supporter and lived within spitting distance of StJames' park for 3 years during their best spell, finishing second to Man U for 2 years. So it worries me that they always seem to let their good players go without much fight! Alan Shearer is an exception, but he's not getting any younger. They've just let Ferguson go for virtually half what they paid for him, just when he was actually fit to play, and Davids Batty and Ginola seemed to slip away quietly a while back. I just hope they hang on to kieron dyer and they're new signing carl cort. and i hope there is some truth in the mcmanaman rumour as well! ...
Advantages: turning season for the team Disadvantages: still need 1 or 2 changes
Now this season after the revival under robson can Newcastle play like they did at st.jamespark last season beating united 3-0 ? now newcastle seem to be even stronger than last season with carl cort and our argentinian players fumaca and bassedas. untieds first game in the charity shield showed that they are beatable quite easily! we seem to be quite confident about this season and as long as we keep our chins up and play as we should we could make the top 5 teams very easily. robson could be the next kevin keegan to newcastle but lets see if he can take us all the way? i hope so. ...
