Crowne Plaza St James - A Great London Hotel Happy to See You

Advantages: Great Location. Excellent standard of service. Relatively good value for London.
Disadvantages: No Pool. That's about it!

INTRODUCTION I booked dinner and theatre for my wife's thirtieth birthday, and needed a relatively up-market hotel in London - with a bit of ?wow? factor - to overnight in. I am a frequent visitor to IC Hotel Group properties on business (these include the five star Intercontinental Hotels, the four to five star Crowne Plaza, and the three to four star Holiday Inn) and am a member of their award-winning ?Priority Club? loyalty scheme, so I decided to use my accumulated points to redeem a ?Reward Night? and stay for free. The hotel is on Buckingham Gate, with extensive frontage featuring an attractive red and white brick façade with decorative arches, reminiscent of Florentine architecture. A SUITABLE RESTING PLACE FOR St ALBAN

Advantages: Antiquity, Architecture, Free Entry, Guides, History.
Disadvantages: None Found

the West Front, I realised that when last I visited the Cathedral I had approached from the West, rather than as today, walking around the building on the north side. WHO WAS Mr ALBAN? Yes there was a Mr Alban! He was an early Christian; put to death in around 250 AD by the Roman's who at the time did not believe in one God, rather a large number of Pagan Gods. Being executed for his faith and buried on the hillside where St Alban's Cathedral now stands, Alban has his place in history as the first English Christian martyr. Alban, a prominent Pagan citizen in Verulamium, had been converted to Christianity by a priest, who he had concealed in his house and finally aided in escaping the city disguised as Alban himself.
