St Tropez is a great range that contains all the products needed for a fantastic natural looking all year round tan.
It claims to work instantly for a streak less application that will last for days.
It comes in an 8oz bottle with a handy pump action, which makes it a lot easier to use.
I paid £26.50 for this, which I know does seem like a lot.

I initially brought the St Tropez mousse however this brought me out in a rash so I had to discontinue using it. My friend used this lotion so I borrowed a little bit and I didn’t have the same reaction so decided to give it ago. I did love this at first because it brought me out in such a dark tan and I even had one done professionally, which cost £25, I thought after it was a waste of money because it really is easy enough to do it at home and get the same results.

This is in my opinion the best way to use it:
• Exfoliate really well, I use a body brush to really scrub myself
• Moisturise all dry areas, such as the knees, feet, elbows etc. I have found that putting a little moisturiser on my face made the tan look more natural.
• Put on rubber gloves
• Pump loads of the tanning lotion into your hands and apply it in circular motions, Now the trick to using this right is to not be afraid of it, I’ve found the harder you try to put it on evenly the worse it will look when you wash it off. It’s really intimidating because it’s a thick brown paste that makes you look like you have rolled in mud.
• I find it dries really quickly so start at you feet and work your way up. You should literally look brown and smeary.
• Once you have applied it everywhere just have a good look all over and make sure you haven’t missed anywhere like armpits and the back of your arms and legs.
• To do your back you could buy the applicator but I get my boyfriend to slap some on.
• Take off your gloves and squirt a little on the back of your hands, then rub the backs of your hand together to distribute the tan. I wouldn’t recommend putting too much on your hands and feet as these tend to take to the tan really well and usually go quite brown.
You will start to look more smeary and uneven as it dries but trust me it will be fine.
I sometimes use my hairdryer on a warm setting to make sure the tan is dry before getting dressed. Although so far none of my clothing has actually stained. I would recommend just putting something like a baggy t-shirt on as you don’t want do rub any areas off.
I would also recommend using this at night because it works best if you leave it on for 12 hours and it’s a waste to put it on an wash it off any earlier.
• When you wake up the next morning simply shower it off.
• I recommend moisturising because after exfoliating the day before your skin might be quite dry and you don’t want your tan to crack or go patchy.

You will find that it rubs off on your sheets so be prepared to wash them the next day. I usually use a little vanish and they always come out sparkling. I always find that the next day isn’t the best for your tan because mine normally develops a little through the day and you do get a lingering smell of it. I also feel a little greasy.

St Tropez sells the whole range of products needed to achieve your tan, including a body polisher, moisturiser, gloves, application tool (for your back), gloves and tan remover.
Even though these products are all designed to work with the Tanning lotion and are all very nice they are also rather expensive, the body polisher is £15.50, the moisturiser is £12 and the gloves are £2.50 for five pairs.
If I was to recommend one of these products it would be the moisturiser because it has been specially designed so that you can very the colour of your tan with it. It does smell really nice and is good to put on your dry areas.
The body polisher is a really vibrant blue and is very harsh, a little too harsh for my skin so I prefer to use St Ives.
It is recommended that you exfoliate every three days and moisturise everyday to keep your tan looking its best.

Now here’s my true verdict:

The tan often goes streaky; even after all the practise I’ve had with it, which can be very frustrating if you were planning on showing a little skin.
When it goes right it looks absolutely fab, and in my opinion looks a really natural colour.
It’s great because if you want a really deep tan you can build it up by applying it on consecutive days but I have always found it to look dark after just one day.
It is relatively un messy to use because its so thick it doesn’t drip on the floor like sprays can but you have to wash you sheets every time you use it and you do feel really sticky all evening with it on. Trust me you won’t be popping out anywhere once you’ve put it on, you will not want to be seen.
It is relatively good value for money, depending on how much you use it.
Fake tan is really high maintenance so be prepared to spend hours exfoliating and moisturising.
I have found the spray better for me but I think its worth ago if your interested in using it and you like to go really brown. Also it’s great if you usually use sun beds but are interested in trying something else. I actually find this cheaper than sun-beds because one bottle used to last me a month if I put it on once a week. It’s especially good now because of all the tanning moisturisers out there that I think are great for prolonging the colour you get from St Tropez.

This is definately a products for the high maintenance girls out there. If you dont mind taking the time to get it right and you dont mind the maintenance of it give it a go. Not a very good product for people who are allways on the go and dont have a lot of spare time on their hands.
