St. Tropez is a very well known range of self tanning products available from Boots, some discount retailers e.g. TJ Hughes and hair and beauty salons. The range includes lotions, aerosol sprays and mousse. The Whipped Bronzing Mousse is available in two sizes, 120ml rrp £20 and 240ml rrp £30.

St. Tropez Whipped Bronze Mousse

I started to use St.Tropez over two years ago after having it recommended by a few friends and wondered if it would live up to its reputation. I had used several tanning products in the past, most not as expensive as St. Tropez and had never quite acheived the desired results. The price always put me off but I now think of it as an investment!

The instructions on the bottle advise you to exfoliate before application. I just use a body scrub with a bath puff. The mousse bottle is a pump action and the bottle needs to be shaken well before use. The instructions also advise that you moisurise rough areas before application too e.g. knees, ankes, elbows etc. I have found that following these steps definately improves the results and as I mainly use the product on my legs I put a tiny amount of moisuriser on my knees and ankles just before applying the mousse. The pump works very easily and for applying to my legs I use around 6-8 squirts of mousse for each leg. I used to apply it with my bear hands but as it does warn you on the bottle you need to wash your hands immediately after use and I would always end up with some staining the day after! St. Tropez do sell gloves for applying their products. I now apply it with a tanning mitt and couldn't be happier with the results. Of course your own technique will determine the results too! The mousse is best applied quickly using circular motions as it is absorbed into the skin very quickly. After just 60 seconds it is ok to put clothes over it as but I usually just wear shorts for about an hour after, usually while getting ready to go out or before bedtime.

The mousse is brown in colour and as you apply it you can see any white bits you may have missed. This also gives you a slight bronzed appearance instantly. The tan intensifies over the course of three hours but the bottle states best results are acheived when left overnight and showered off the following morning. I have found that doing this gives a more natural appearance and then I repeat the process the following night to acheive a deeper tan. This usually then fades over two to three days. I have noticed that it turns the bath water a yellow colour! Personally I have been extremely happy with the results especially when applied using the tanning mitt, I very rarely see any streaks and often get asked by friends and colleagues what I have used on my legs.

Yes! 100% and I have recommended it to several people. They have recently redesigned the packaging and the product now has a pleasent floral fragrance. The older version had a distinctive smell to it which wasn't unpleasent but many people compared it to rich tea biscuits! It's much nicer to think I might smell of flowers and not rich tea! I think that if the instructions are followed correctly this product gives fantastic results. I have had some tanning disasters in the past but believe that St. Tropez mousse is worth every penny. It lasts well too as I always buy the smaller bottle and get at least 6 months out of it (that is using it twice a week on my legs). I just hope they never discontinue it!
