Staedtler Triplus Fineliners

I have always found the Staedtler fineliner to be a very reliable product. I study graphic design and therefore require a pen to perform to a certain standard and I have found that the Staedtler fineliner has always been able to provide this function.

I like the appearance of the pen, the combination of the silver body with a colour coded lid and end is really cool. Also, the packaging itself is very innovative: a see through packet that you can turn into a pen stand makes it easier to access the pens and it brings an aesthetic quality to the product.

No matter how much you suck the top the ink doesn’t spill out into your mouth, which is definitely a bonus when you are in deep concentration.

It also has dry safe anti smudge technology, which means when the ink touches paper it dry instantly. This is a very important aspect for me as the last thing I can tolerate is the work I’ve just spent 4 hours drawing now being smudged and having to spend an hour cleaning it up digitally.

The colours are well chosen in this selection packet. Black is obviously the most universally useful pen. The blue, red and green are a nice compliment to each other. It’s nice have the basics of two primary colours, but with the added complexity of a secondary colour. The ink is also very vibrant, and an actual colour match to the lid of the pen; which I consider extremely important, there is nothing worse than buying a pen and then it looking nothing like the colour it suggests it is.

The quality of the nibs is also very good. They don’t wear down instantly like some pens meaning you end up with thick and thin lines, when you want them all the same width. Also the shape of the nib is slightly rounded, which makes drawing with them smooth, and you don’t have to break them in for them to be comfortable to write/draw with. They are also very fine, so the detail you can create with them is impeccable.

The shape of them is very interesting, being triangular. This makes the pen a very easy shapes to hold for long periods of time, and gives you a good grip on the pen, thus better control of what you do with it. This shape also means if you have them lying around on a table they won’t just roll off, because they have flat edges.

The only complaint I’d have to stay about it; is that sometimes the ink seems to run out in one particular pen before the rest, regardless of the times it has been used. As a suggestion I would like to see one extra black pen in the pack as it is the one I used the most, I think this would make the pack even more ideal for artist. But apart from this I would highly recommend these pens; they are of excellent quality, good colours, comfortable to hold, and good to look at.
