Advantages: Great Value, Well made, good fun Disadvantages: None
Yes, it's true, I am reviewing another musical instrument. I was given this trombone for Christmas and I am trying to master it.
So what is a trombone? There are several types of trombone but the one I have is the one that most people would recognise, a standard tenor instrument.
I have had other instruments by Stagg and have found them to be great value, well made and suitable for student to intermediate players.
If you were to assess my playing skills on a scale from 1-10 I suppose I would come in at about -3.
It's a tricky instrument, the theory, from my physics lessons thirty five years ago, is that the longer the column of air in a tube, the lower the note. As you will know the trombone has a slide that can be extended to lengthen the tube to create lower notes.

~ Slide with the Time ~
Last night I went to visit my mum like I do most Mondays. Since moving I always dedicate a weekday to see her. After catching up and having a rant about the most common crap things in life we wanted something good to watch. Sliding Doors has been out for over ten years and we have watched it about twenty times but it is still really good, and one of those films you can watch however many times. We do actually own the film on VHS somewhere which shows how old it is. I remember first watching it on TV though a few years ago. There are some recognisable actors involved and I quite like Gwyneth Paltrow. I think she is a very good actress and even though she does not appear in big blockbusters, all her films are soft and well performed. So after discovering this was on I was pleased of the choice as it is ...
Advantages: Build quality, appearance and tone. Excellent soft case. Disadvantages: Very minor intonation issues in the upper register.
For the amazing price of this instrument (I paid around the £150 mark) it is an excellent horn for a player of beginner or intermediate standard. It is beautifully proportioned in the traditional saxhorn style - far more appealing to my eye than the open wrap design of many cheaper models.
This horn plays with a lovely tone, perhaps with a few minor intonation issues in the higher register, but the notes can be lipped into shape. The tuning slide set into the leadpipe, before the valve block is a likely contributor to any imperfections.
The corrosion-resistant rose brass leadpipe, excellent lacquer finish and robust stays make this horn a must for anyone seeking a real bargain. You can find virtually identical horns made in Taiwan/China and marketed under a number of brand names for £100 or £200 more!
Additionally, the mouthpiece ...
