Buy something else
Advantages: Can't think of any Disadvantages: photo quality, price of development, Minolta customer service
...advise anyone to buy a Minolta camera. I accept that occasionally cameras may be faulty, but the level of customer service I received, the delays, the lack of concern and then the refusal to simply replace the camera free of charge (no cost at all to Minolta) were absolutely unacceptable. ...

The wrong view
Advantages: compact, lightweight, attractive Disadvantages: Takes crappy pictures
I bought my Minolta camera at least 4 years ago. Having tried a variety of friends' compact cameras I decided to get one myself. I'd been pleasantly surprised that the quality of photographs compared well to my SLR camera. My main gripe with my existing camera was that it was so bulky and obvious that I was sometimes loath to pull it out on display, especially in places I was unfamiliar with, where I felt more vulnerable to being robbed.
Unfortunately, ... ...most of my friends had. No, I thought that if you spent more on a camera, you'd get more. Not true. Especially in the light of the fact that the camera's price was slashed in half about 2 months after I made the purchase (gutted? You bet). I bought the camera in Argos for £400, it quickly became available at £200, and the last time I looked, the camera was selling at around £150.
There were a few plus-points which influenced me to buy the camera ...

Good quality and value with minolta
Advantages: lots of good features, good price Disadvantages: pictures too bright sometimes
...to chunky ofcourse. The minolta one was recommended a few times so I bought it. The quality of pictures is good, gives a great colour contrast, even in dull lighting conditions the pictures came out well. Generally very good for pictures of landscape and scenery etc. All my pictures came out quite sharp and bright. However, it is best used zoomed-out when it comes to photographing people. The zoom-in function gives great clarity and quality but skin-tones ... ...It may be that the flash is too strong. But apart from the skin-tone problem, the camera is great for zooming in and if used with a good quality film, it will produce quality pictures. It also has a self-timer function, landscape setting and a function that allows you to take good pictures in the dark. Great features and a good looking camera! ...

Minolta Riva Zoom 115
Advantages: Easy to use controls, Compact size, nice silver finish, Good picture quality Disadvantages: Small viewfinder
I had this camera for a few years just upgraded to digital camera. The camera has served me very well over the years and the best bit about it is the picture quality - it takes great pictures in daylight and even when the light is low eg at night as it has a feature that enables you to take pictures in the dark known as night portrait shot. To enable you to take accurate shots it has a camera shake warning by means of a green light flashing in viewfinder ... ...Another useful feature is the battery check indicator that tells you how much power is left in battery on the small LCD screen on top of camera. Battery consumption is good for this camera as you can get through on average 3/4 rolls of 24 exposure films before the battery starts to power down. It uses Lithium Battery CR123A. The camera has a powerful flash with good range and exposure when used. Also has red eye reduction with self timer. The camera ...
