ROTASTAK
Rotastak is owned by Armitage’s a pet company with over 100 years experience. Armitage’s make the famous doggy choc drops the ones you see every Christmas in the doggy Christmas stockings. They also sell the Gussie range for fish and various items for cats and dogs.
Rotastak a fuchsia pink colour – A brilliant cage for all rodents, this design of cage is more popular with the girls then the boys as they tend to go for the space theme or the rainbow colours. I get a lot of comments from customers informing me their hamsters don't like to use the 'double circular tubes' - may be this is something to do with the height? The mice however shimmy up with no problems.
This 3 tier cage includes a top tower or sleeping compartment, 2nd level contains the wheel and this area is also suitable for keeping a dish of food there. The bottom level is very spacious and you could even add a little litter tray there as most rodents poo in the same spot.
DISADVANTAGES
Because most of the cage is plastic with very little air vents rodents such as mice smell. Gerbils tend to gnaw plastic so personally I would stick to using the cage for little hammy.
After a while of cleaning the plastic stains a murky white colour (with scratching), it also gets scratched easily so after a while the cage looks horrible. I find cleaning the cage out with a mild solution of pet safe disinfectant, water and a sponge helps polish the cage nicely and leaving a nice fresh clean smell so hammy also feels nice and refreshed.
The tubes and some of cage pieces are a little fiddly therefore an old baby toothbrush would be useful here to help prevent scratching.
If your child wants to build and build be prepared to have plenty of space!
ADVANTAGES
Easy enough to put together and purchasing add on tubes is relatively easy to buy however this can prove to be quite costly if your child wants to turn his cage in to a super cage.
Easy enough to vacuum out however tube cleaning is more awkward as smaller hands are required or you have to push a cloth through and this could be time consuming or as mentioned above use a baby’s toothbrush.
I would suggest purchasing extra clips so you have spares when you need them.
CAGE SIZE
Overall cage size is approx 20 inches in length and 21 inches high.
PRICE
Price of cage is approx £50.00 to £60.00 however tubes start from as little £2.00 -£3.00 per Rotastak item. As with all Rotastak all items are compatible so you can have a bright pink one as mentioned or go for the Space Command Unit or the Multi Coloured Rainbow sets.
Advantages: Can be expanded limitlessly, more interesting than wire cages Disadvantages: Extremely expensive, aimed at children who could be irresponsible
