OK, the knife is made by the famous Stanley company, and a lot of people here will think it just a "Stanley knife". Well let me just say that this is the Daddy of Stanley knives, it is a far better example of a wonderful tool. These are larger than conventional ones, and I thought these were only available to carpet fitters, as they are far too good for us mere Mortals. Having owned a second hand example, I can recommend it for accuracy and ease of handling. The bigger handle gives more control, and they still use the replaceable small blades.
A Stanley knife, according to good old Wikipedia, is a utility knife (also called a box cutter, a Stanley knife, a razor blade knife, a carpet knife, or a stationery knife) is a common tool used in various trades and crafts for a variety of purposes. Israel and Switzerland call them Japanese knives. In Brazil they are called estiletes or cortadores. This model is sold in the UK as the "Titan" or the "Xtreme".
As for keeping these clean and in working order, I just give the inside of mine a squirt of WD40 from time to time, it never gets wet so it should last forever. I have added a few turns of coloured tape, just to make it easier to find, otherwise, I can not fault it.
These knives are not you may think to be classed as weapons, well think on, because they were used in the 9/11 plane incidents, they were of course, also used by the "skinheads" years ago. Over the years, they have been banned by some countries, or at least had an age limit set on their purchase. These knives can be used to cut plastic, carpet, or any wood related product, and will give you years of good service.
As for how much you should pay, the RRP is a massive twelve Pounds, but you will see them a lot cheaper than that. If buying by mail order, please remember that you will have to pay delivery costs. The same goes for the likes of eBay of course. Also make sure you are buying the genuine article, not just a cheap imitation, there are a lot about.
The knife is of all metal construction, and the handle holds up to 25 spare blades, and this handle is very comfortable to hold. The blade is retractable of course, and it has three positions, these can be purchased almost anywhere. The front of the knife is actually magnetic, so you will find it easy to change blades without dropping them. The knife also has a non slip grip.
History of the company:- 1843 was the year that Frederick Trent Stanley, established a small shop in New Britain, Connecticut, where he manufactured door bolts, and also hardware made from wrought iron. Stanley's bolt factory was only one of dozens of small foundries and other industries in towns struggling to make a go of it, by turning out metal fittings. But Stanley had a special innovative spirit, and a passion for doing things right, and his little enterprise prospered, and grew as The Stanley Works.
Stanley do have a rather good website, see here:- http://www.stanleytools.com You may be amazed to see the vast range of tools they sell.
I must just add the obvious statement, THESE KNIVES CAN BE DANGEROUS. If used correctly of course, they are a wonderful tool, and they are only dangerous if used without common sense. Thank you.

They really are as they say "The dog's bollocks" but if you own one, you could make sure very easily that your dog didn't have any. They are - let's not get away from the fact - lethal weapons in any hoodie's pocket, whether for attack or protection. They will slice you up in quick time.

Well done, good to read about something a bit different!

I was going to say "the Original and the best", but the metal Stanley knives that I've used have been of the more conventional bulbous shape. This one looks and sounds far more comfortable (probably accurate too) to use. Richard.
