So here's the scenario, you just want to bind that 120 page script together with the usual brass fasteners. However a visit to your loacl stationary store such as Rymans or Wh Smiths and all you'll find are the kind that only hole a few pages and have a minor strength. Want a bigger size and they'll charge you more then the product is really worth.
So I'm embarked on a journey to my local Staples Superstore. I say local as they are not within the city and are more on the outskirt, I felt like it was going on a long haul journey. Anyway I arrive there in a heavy downpour of rain and find myself faced with stationary of all sorts.
Anything you can think of from software and mobile phones to ream of paper. The chances are that Staples has it. The layout of the store was quite simple with aisles dedicated to the usual pens and paper as well as hole punshers etc. I never thought there were so many different types of paper to choose from.
Anyway I found my brass fasteners and they were very decently priced. Looking around the store I can say that price isn't a consistent thing. There are some good two for one deals but they aren't advertised in a large way. I picked up a notepad from a large pile and had no idea until I got to checkout that there was another one free.
Some of their paper is also quite pricey for the quality. I found myself looking at the various boxes that contained reams and had differnt prices. But there were no samples of what to expect inside. As a result I wasn't prepared to buy any.
Another thing is that the prices don't include VAT and there isn't really any big notification of this in store. An inclusive and exclusive price on the labels would be nice but instead you have to toto it up in your mind. Perhaps they want you to buy one of their calculators to help ?
However the staff were friendly, they asked me if I'd found everything I was looking for and at least this store had those fasteners. The store could have some improvements but really it's more for the bulk buying office customer than the humble brass fastener buying Film-maker.

Advantages: Sometimes insane prices, good customer service skills and large range of products Disadvantages: Bad locations, little training and large turnover of staff
