Despite modestly calling itself an 'expansion pack,' Starcraft - Brood Wars could quite easily be considered a sequel. Picking up from where Starcraft left off, it has three more campaigns for each species which actually contain more levels than the original itself, as well as new characters and units for each race. There are only seven new units, but too often in RTS expansion packs has the introduction of a new race or a plethora of new units done a lot of damage to the most important aspect of real-time-strategy - The balance. Here is a list of the new units:
Terran Medic - A unit which heals infantry and can fire an optic flare into detector units rendering their function redundant.
Terran Valkyrie - A well armoured and powerful anti-air air-unit,
Zerg Lurker - (Evolve from Hydralisks) A brutal monster with a medium range attack that can only be used while burrowed
Zerg Devourer (Evolve from Lurker) A flying air-to air unit with a low rate of fire but packs a hell ofa bunch!
Protoss Corsair - A new air to air medium support unit.
Protoss Dark Archon (Meld of Dark Templar and Archon) a spellcasting support unit with the ability of mind control!
Dark Templar - rather than being a special unit, dark templar can now actually be trained at the Protoss Gateway.
The new emphasis on air warfare is an excellent means of not tipping the balance in this truly excellent expansion. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who played Starcraft.
There are also a lot of new multiplayer maps with Brood War that are intensely playable, including a new custom campaign.
Summary: One of the best expansions you will ever play!
Advantages: New units, maps, campaigns, music and storyline Disadvantages: Doesn't add anything for people who didn't enjoy Starcraft, lots of maps are already available to freely download off the internet (although not always of such a high standard)
Starcraft: Brood War is the expansion to the extremely popular game Starcraft. Advantages: Addictive as hell, fun, fantastic multiplayer scene Disadvantages: Blizzard don't like high game resolutions
Ever since playing Starcraft and discovering one of the best strategy games I could ever imagine, people have been waiting for Broodwars to arrive. Broodwars is a must for all Starcraft fans. The new units, maps, scenarios, options make for a game that is hard to put down. As always the add-on keeps the best gameplay you can get and adds a hell of a lot more. Not only this but the beautiful animated scenes also make for a single player game that ... ...had one complaint about this game, it would be that the game resolution cannot be changed - Blizzard is constantly pumping out games with a constant resolution of 640x480, even in its latest games like Diablo2. Although this adds fairness to the game (a player on a higher res cannot see more of the map etc) it looks terrible on my 19" monitor. Apart from this, the game itself is perfect in almost every other detail.

Advantages: The three sides to the Battles Disadvantages: Very hard to master
Starcraft is one of the few games that got me hooked straight away I normal move on once I’ve completed them but with the Broodwars expansion set and the excellent but hard to use level editor makes it able to make your own single player level campaigns and makes excellent multiplayer facility.
The three sides make the game have extra dimensions because it is easy to play but hard to master. The only major problem is the games can often tern into ...

Advantages: Good for multi playing Disadvantages: Too easy
StarCraft is a brilliant and very enjoyable game... with a choice of 3 species including Terran, Protoss and Zerg. I think that the zergs are best for multi-players games with lurkers as a good source of ground defence. Plus the zerg can regenerate. Protoss are good for air attack, scouts have excellent air to air missiles and the carriers, well what can I say but, HAHAHAHA...

Advantages: Good for starcraft fans.....some new strategies to come up with Disadvantages: Will get boring after a short while
Can Blizzard come up with something original other than more add ons with silly units. Why not allow players to control more units rather than having a cap of 200, or more races ? Why not come up with a completely new race ? Why not improve on the damn silly graphics ?
Broodwars is fun ..... for a while...... after which it sinks in that it was no different from the original starcraft except 3 or 4 more new units to toy around with.
