distinct races in StarCraft have unique capabilities and strategies. Everyone still competes in the RTS genre's typical race for resources, but that's the only shared trait. Terrans can move their bulky mechanised bases as necessary, while the reptilian Zerg grow their colonies and warriors from mutating larvae. Meanwhile, the noble Protoss warp in equipment from their home world using psionic powers. Not only does game maker Blizzard juggle the races' playability and match it with superb art and sound effects, it also weaves together an engrossing three-act plot. Early on, as a Terran magistrate, you spend a breathtaking 30 minutes defending against a Zerg onslaught. As the story unfolds around you, you'll experience the Zerg's hive mentality and decipher the mysterious Protoss by the game's dramatic conclusion. Missions vary in scope and are effectively framed with dialogue, chapter screens and in-mission exposition. Multiplayer games are also very well represented by Blizzard's own free Battle.net service. If you'd rather play over a local area network, StarCraft will generously "spawn" up to seven copies so your friends can join in. In keeping with StarCraft's groundbreaking design, Brood War presents you with three sides of a galactic conflict. Scheming humans, insidious Zerg and proud Protoss collide again, with stunning new cinematics setting the stage. Old friends and foes and ominous new arrivals give the story a breakneck pace, while a handful of additions to each race's arsenal makes for tense battles. Brood War also features stellar new environments and ambient art, as well as more than 100 additional multiplayer maps. Some missions require a bit of finesse, breaking the resource-gathering routine while making good use of the new units. Humans now have Valkyrie missile frigates as well as medics who automatically try to heal your grunts. New for the Zerg air force is the acid-spewing Devourer; the new Lurker unit provides heavy-duty (under)ground support. Along with the Corsair fighter, the Protoss re-enter the fray with Dark Templar, which can merge to form the devastating Dark Archon. Unfortunately, units old and new still suffer from weak artificial intelligence in path finding. Real-time strategy games don't get any more epic or any more satisfying. --Jack Gardiner

...boys playing video games].
StarCraft is in the same vein as “Command & Conquer”, or “Total Annihilation”. This genre is referred to as “Real Time Strategy”. You have total control over your forces. There are three main things to do in these games: Harvest, Build and Destroy. Harvesting means acquiring resources so you can Build. Building your forces up enough in turn allows you to finally Destroy whatever needs destroying. Simple really, but strategy ... ...the strategy bit abridged.
StarCraft has two main modes of play: Single Player and Multiplayer. In Single Player, you go on a campaign in a galaxy far far away with each race. These races are Terran, Zerg and Protoss. Naturally these names mean nothing to you, so I best explain. Each race - regardless of name - always has a central node to their base where minerals are gathered. They not only take in the two types of minerals: Crystals and Gas, ...

Advantages: Different races offering different play styles, brilliant real-time strategy game, graphics are still good despite its age. Disadvantages: Some people may be put off by its age, but you shouldn't be.
...the difference between each on starcraft is immense. Other than the obvious visual look (Terrans are mechanical, Protoss technological and Zerg organic), each race has completely different units and strategies that can be employed. Many things are different, from how unit limits are determined to how construction takes place. I will outline many of the differences below (though you'll probably want to look somewhere else to find out all of them). ... ...buildings, this unit needs to be present during the entire building operation. Unit limits are determined by the number of supply depots you use. Building can take place anywhere. Unit production and toughness is medium, quicker but weaker than Protoss, but slower and more powerful than Zerg. Many major buildings can actually be moved, this is great if an area is likely to be completely destroyed as you can minimise loss. Overall this is a balanced ...

They were and never have been to worried about missing deadlines due to there ability to resit getting the game out no the market as soon as possible then fix it with patches later on. Advantages: Great storyline, top graphics and effects, brilliant gameplay Disadvantages: bit old but not bad in any way, possibly hard to get hold of
I got Starcraft a long time ago, played it and then for some reason left it before i completed it. I have recently found it on my shelf and thought to myself:
"What the hell, I remember this game being something like starship troopers hmmm sounds cool lets play!"
And that thought is true the game acts like the film starship troopers. Their are 3 races, human marines, zerg aliens and protosss advanced humanoids. Each race has a different difficulty ... ...The game also comes with a level editor to make maps for online play and multiplayer battles etc. STARCRAFT is an excellent strategy game, its up their with the best of them like command and conquer 2. If you can get hold of this game, get it NOW! ...
