Star Trek Encounters is a shoot em up space combat game which is similar to Star Tek Legacy with going through all of the star trek time line.

The player gets to play as all three Enterprise captains as well as other captains like Captain Janeway which makes for a few interesting missions.

Star Trek Encounters is a shoot em up space combat game which is similar to Star Tek Legacy with going through all of the star trek time line.

The player gets to play as all three Enterprise captains as well as other captains like Captain Janeway which makes for a few interesting missions.

Game Play

When starting the game the player has the choice whether to play in a number of modes such as skirmish, epidose mode or multiplayer mode.

If the player chooses the episode mode then they will go through each era starting with USS Enterprise as Captain Archer which starts with a tutorial mission of using weapons, sensors and engines. Some of these tasks seemed a little boring like the engines part where the player has to fly the Enterprise through a series of hoops as fast of possible adjusting the height of the ships to go up or down in a time limit.

A the game progresses and more missions are passed more ships become unlocked offering a good number of ships around 60. Additionally players will have the chance to fly ships from other races such as the Kazon, Borg, Vulcans and Cardassians as well as others.

This game did not impress me because it seemed like every mission was the same where you would fly through space shoot a few bag guys and that would be it. A part from that the story line was very good making for some good videos and good cut scenes.

The battles would not last long meaning that the player would target the enemy fire a few pahser shots and a few torpedos and the enemy would be dead. To me a battle should have trick and turns which Star Tek Encounters doesn't have.

The game didn't feel as realistic as thought it should have because it didn't allow the player to look onto the bridge, the player doesn't get to control the crew or even seem them at all.

I found that when controlling the ship it was very difficult at times because using the left analog to move is not excellent. Also targeting the enemy was made difficult when using the right analog because you need more than just a delicate hand other wise you will miss the target. This is the same when attempting to transport to other ships and target key systems.

Graphics

The graphics were okay but I thought that the textures on the ships weren't very good making some battles seem not as good as they could have.

When I bought this game I paid £30 and from what I have mentioned in this review I don't think it is very good value for money.

I would only recommend this game to thoughs that are star trek fans and love arcade style games besides that I wasn't very impressed by it at all. This game did not live up to any other Star Tek game that I have ever played in the past because if you was to take away the Star Tek name from this game it would just be a shoot em up game because that is all this game will ever be and nothing more. Sorry to be harsh but this is the truth.
