Star Trek: Massively Overrated

Advantages: Swift plot development; suitable for nearly all ages.
Disadvantages: Terrible plot; unconvincing characters; indifferent acting.

I approached the release of the new Star Trek film. Star Trek (2009) The film has a dramatic beginning as we follow the USS Kelvin in an encounter with a Romulan mining vessel captained by the deranged Nero (Eric Bana). First Officer of the Kelvin, George Kirk (Chris Hemsworth), realises that the ship?s crew can only be saved at the expense of his own life. Meanwhile, in her evacuation pod, his wife Winona (Jennifer Morrison) gives birth to an infant, named James Tiberius Kirk. So far, so cheesy, but this plotline allows us quickly to anchor the film at a particular point in the Star Trek universe, as we realise that James Kirk will become the legendary Captain who explored the universe in the original television series. It is natural therefore that the film moves on to scenes of Spock?s childhood ? Spock being Kirk?s loyal ...

Star Trek - Alternately Outstanding

Advantages: Fantastic Action and spills, the effects are amazing and will pull in new fans
Disadvantages: None

Star Trek.... well... first of all... I have not even seen the tv series (original or the next frontier) or have i seen ANY movies. (well 1/4 of a movie and i'll say.... i got parts of the movie i saw but not much (FYI it was Star Trek: Nemesis). Moving to my point.... Star Trek.... Was.... The Worst film if you dispised all actions and thrillers, but one of the BEST films of the decade if you love actions and thrillers like me! I was actually worried that I wouldn't get the plot of the film, but surprisingly enough, I did and i really enjoyed the film. WARNING: Like all my reviews, I reveal the beginning, so if you do not wish to know, please just scroll past the next two paragraphs. As the USS Kelvin becomes attacked by the Narada (a Romulan mining ship), all the crew members evacuate. The current captain is asked ...

Review of Star Trek

Star Trek, maybe it should have been left alone

Advantages: Okay if you don't think too hard about it
Disadvantages: Plot holes and poor acting

I was a bit wary of watching this film, because I really enjoyed the later Star Trek films, and wasn?t sure a prequel was a good idea. Synopsis The story follows James Kirk from the events of his birth and his yearly years, but mainly concentrates on his first voyage on the Starship Enterprise. It also follows the life of Spock and how he was an outcast both on Vulcan and Earth due to his mixed parentage. Spock as we all know also ends up on the Enterprise. Early in the film Kirk is accused of cheating on a test, and during the enquiry a distress call is received from Vulcan and Starfleet respond by sending off the fleet to investigate. Despite the fact Kirk is suspended he sneaks on the Enterprise as it heads off. The ship is being run by all new recruits apart from the captain, so it sets off later than the rest ...
