fighter squadrons. They're all inStar Wars Galactic Battlegroundsand they're all, happily, superb.Star Wars games have had a chequered history on the PC, ranging wildly between the very good (X-Wing/TIE Fighter) and the utterly awful (Force Commander). It's great to see, then, that LucasArts are firmly back on track with their newest PC release, a real-time strategy affair based on the highly successfulAge of Empiresengine. There's nothing essentially new here for the hardened RTS gamer. Resources need to be mined, units built and technologies researched in the race to crush the opposition. All of this is handled in time-honoured format--build workers, cut down things, process the results through factories and hardware pops out at the end of the process. What gives this the edge is theStar Warssetting and the quality of the graphics, which are visually appealing and stay accurate to the wealth ofStar Warsinformation that already exists. There are six basic "races": human Rebels, the Empire, Gungans, Wookiees, the Trade Federation and the Naboo, each with their own specific weapons and tools--there's nothing quite like sending a squadron of AT-ATs into battle and watching them smash the Alliance to bits. The sound helps massively here with dozens of samples included that sound very much as though they've been taken from the movies. In addition to the standard hardware afforded each side, Force alliances come into play and it's possible to side with either the Jedi or the Sith depending on your preference. It's also possible to conjure up Jedi Knights and Sith Dark Lords.Unit balancing is pretty good here, there are no invulnerable units, everything has definite strengths and weaknesses and if you think tactically there are ways around any problem, provided you have the resources.Tactically, the computer plays a nifty game and doesn't make too many silly mistakes making this a great one-player experience. Moving to the multiplayer game takes things to a whole new level, however, and provides genuinely exciting gaming. As an addition to the current family ofStar Warsgames,Galactic Battlegroundsis a real winner, combining depth of gameplay with a genre that's familiar to the vast majority of gamers. This is top stuff. --Redfoo Khanzada
built on The Age of Empires engine,Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. It is also the first PC game to feature content fromStar Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones. This content mainly comes in the form of two new campaigns: The Old Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. You can choose to either take control of the shiny new Jedi controlled Army of the Republic, forefathers of those pesky Imperial Stormtroopers, or the combined armies of the Confederacy complete with the insect like Genosians, and Techno Droids. The action inClone Campaignscommences on Geonosis, with the aftermath of the big battle scene at the end of the movie.. Each campaign features seven missions to complete and over 200 new troop, vehicle and ship units and takes you through the beginning of the infamous clone wars.New features are also added to the original game with new units, orders and effects all selectable in the older campaigns. All the new and old armies are selectable in the Multiplayer and Skirmish modes, ensuring youll be needing to re-evaluate those tactics for warfare against the new combatants. Overall a great add-on which adds and enhances an already fantastic game.--Laurent S Hall.

Ok its still buggy. Its still a complete rip off of Age of Empires and lests face it the Republic is a total rip off of the empire. But hey its a whole load of fun.
I loved the first Galactic Battlegrounds and i loved the expansion. Mostly because of the diversity it brought to the random multiplayer games with more tech and more factions.
I have to say playing a multiplayer game with another person and holocrons in play is where this expansion really comes into its own. The new units and advances allow you to build vast sprawling fortresses and diverse armies that can render the Age of Empires 'Throw basic soldiers at it till it dies' technique obsolite and really make the players think about how to defeat each other.
Particularly the ability to demolish areas of forest with bombarding artilery units made the whole dynamics of play and particularly defence stand out so much.
The new campaigns are good, not great and your left feeling it was all rather pointless at the end but its still fun to play. Particularly the confederacy campaign. But then i always loved being the bad girl.
Id definatley recomend the expansion to fans of the first game but dont expect sweeping changes to, well, anything lol. XCX

Not a bad expansion Review ofStar Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns (PC)by
TallanKhan
Advantages: New units tech and storylines Disadvantages: Tired and unsatisfying
The Clone Campaigns is a good expansion to the original Galactic Battlegroads game. It adds more two new campaigns, that you play as the republic and the CIS (Confederacy of Independant Starsystems). The two campaigns, starting with the CIS campaign follow on from each other and tell the story of a Jedi Knight, Echuu Shen-Jon whos aprentice is killed by Sev\'rance Tann, the aprentice of Count Dooku at the battle of Genosis. In the Confederacy campaign ... ...develop a weapon, the decimator, and capture the energy mining facility on Sarapin to hold Coruscant hostage.
In the Republic campaign you play as Echuu and his new aprentice, the sister of his murdered first aprentice and you are guided by Mace Windu. You goal is basically to destroy the decimators and recapture Sarapin before moving on to the final showdown on Krant where Tann and Echuu have their final duel.
While the story here is more in depth ...
