Stargate SG-1, I love this series. Here is what it’s all about.

OVERVIEW
Stargate SG-1 is a Canadian TV Series that became a spin off from the 1994 Movie ‘Stargate’. The concept of the show was kept the same as the film, but the cast were completely different except for one ‘Skaara’ played by Alexis Cruz. Stargate SG-1 is based on Earth, in Canada, in an area named Cheyenne Mountain. The Stargate is a big round device that once activated creates a wormhole connecting it to hundreds, even thousands of other Stargates in the Universe. Each Stargate has these symbols that are called Glyphs around it, and these represent different addresses. A device called the Dial Home Device also has all the Glyphs on it, and this device is used to dial another Stargate. Each address has 7 glyphs in it, and once an address has been dialled, the Stargate will connect and this huge pool of blue shimmering liquid type stuff shoots out from the Stargate (which will vaporise anything in it’s path) and then fills the circle in the middle of the gate with the blue liquid. The US Airforce have control of the Stargate and have set up a command called The SGC (Stargate Command). The SGC is in deep within Cheyenne Mountain. There are many teams within the SGC, but the main team is called SG-1. SG-1 consists of 4 people, Colonel Jack O’Neill (Richard Dean Anderson), Dr Daniel Jackson (Michael Shanks), Major Sam Carter (Amanda Tapping), and Teal’c (Christopher Judge). This Team regularly goes through the Stargate to many different Worlds to explore and make friends. But they have made many enemies as well as friends. One of the biggest enemies they have met are the Goa’uld. The Goa’uld are worm-like Lavae that infect a human or other race and joins itself to the upper spinal column and into the brain. The Goa’uld will take over the person (Host) and will suppress the hosts consciousness. The Goa’ulds main hosts have been humans and Jaffa. Jaffa are a race of aliens. Teal’c is a Jaffa who turned against the Goa’uld (who pretend to be Gods). Teal’c used to be first prime to his God Apophis, one day when SG-1 was captured, he turned against the Goa’uld and helped SG-1 to escape. Teal’c then proved himself worthy of joining SG-1 as a Team Member. There are many storylines in this series and they mainly focus on SG-1 going through the gate and experiencing new races and friendships/enemies.

Stargate SG-1 has lasted for 7 years, and is just starting it’s 8th year. Each series has 22 episodes in it that last for 45 minutes each. The latest series that is currently filming (8th) will only have 20 episodes and is quite possibly going to be the last series. This series is seen around the globe, and is very popular. Not many Sci Fi series reach above 7 Seasons, but Stargate SG-1 is still going strong.

CHARACTERS

Colonel Jack O’Neill
Jack was pulled out of retirement at the beginning of the series. He joined the SGC and took command of SG-1. Jack has an ex-wife and used to have a Son. But sadly, due to a horrific accident, his Son was killed. Jack blames himself for his Son’s death, and has never forgotten it. Early on in the series Jack sees Daniel Jackson as a geek with glasses, but soon gets to know him very well and admires him a lot, but he doesn’t always show his true feelings. There is also a connection between Jack and Major Carter, of a romantic nature, but he knows that nothing can happen as they are both in the US Air Force and are restricted from having a relationship.

Dr Daniel Jackson
Daniel Jackson was the man that got the Stargate working, and joined SG-1 as a Civilian. He is one of the Scientists within the team, but he has many other uses. For example he is a brilliant linguist with many languages under his belt. He is very good at diplomacy and is often the first of the Team to speak to new races and make friends. Daniel has a strong relationship with all the members of the Team.

Major Samantha Carter
Major Sam Carter joined SG-1 with much resistance from Jack O’Neill. Jack didn’t really want a female in the Team, but he knew later on that it was a good idea to have her on board, as she is a brilliant scientist. Sam always wanted to be an Astronaut, but realised that the SGC is far more better. Sam Carter has very strong feelings for Jack, and finds it hard to keep them to herself. She also knows that nothing can happen, but she’s tries to keep close to him.

Teal’c
Teal’c is a Jaffa with a Goa’uld Lavae inside him. Teal’c defected to the humans after he helped SG-1 escape capture by the Goa’ulds. Teal’c has proved himself worthy of joining SG-1 and fighting against his own God. Teal’c cares a great deal about the members of SG-1 and will always protect them with his own life. Teal’c has a great advantage above the people of Earth and that is his Goa’uld Symbiote. The Symbiote can heal him very quickly when he is injured, especially with the help of a Sarcophagus that is used mainly by the System Lords.

General George Hammond
General Hammond is the commander of the SGC. He doesn’t often go through the Gate, but he runs things back at the SGC in Cheyenne Mountain. Hammond has to take many risks by sending the SG teams through the Stargate everyday. He also takes orders from the President of the United States, and keeps him apprised of any situations they may arise.

Dr Janet Fraiser
Dr Fraiser is the Doctor within the SGC. She has a very close bond with Sam Carter. She has been through the gate on a number of missions, but often stays back at the SGC ready for when casualties may come back through the gate. Dr Fraiser has to examine every team that comes back through the gate to check for any Alien intrusions.

ACTORS

Richard Dean Anderson
Richard Dean Anderson is the main star of Stargate SG-1 and also one of the Executive Producers. Richard’s previous career has focused on his series MacGyver. These are the 2 series that he is mainly known by. Rick provides much humour on the set of Stargate SG-1 and often makes up his own lines on the spot.

Michael Shanks
Michael Shanks is mainly well known for his role on Stargate Sg-1, but has been on many other TV Shows and films. He has made a few appearances in Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda. Michael Shanks worked on Stargate SG-1 for 5 years, and then left the show. He made a few guest appearances in the 6th year and then rejoined the show as a full cast member for the 7th and 8th year.

Amanda Tapping
Amanda Tapping is also well known for her role on Stargate SG-1. She has appeared on many TV shows, for example The X-Files, The Outer Limits, Millennium and many more. Some people may also know her from a film called The Void, which she was a main star.

Christopher Judge
Christopher Judge is also probably best known for his role in Stargate Sg-1. He has also appeared alongside Michael Shanks in a few episodes of Andromeda. Chris has also appeared alongside Richard Dean Anderson in his series MacGyver in 1990. Chris has appeared in a number of movies and also provided a voice over for many animated TV shows.

Don S. Davis
Don S Davis is well known to me in Stargate SG-1, but many others may know him from a lot more. He has been in tons of different TV shows and films. His career has spanned from 1982 until present times. He has been on the Stargate SG-1 series for 7 years, albeit not a main cast member, but is in a high majority of episodes. Don Davis has also appeared alongside Richard Dean Anderson in his TV series MacGyver.

Teryl Rothery
Teryl Rothery, again is well known to me in Stargate Sg-1, but has been in many other productions. Teryl has been on the show for 7 years, but was also not a main cast member. Teryl probably appeared in less episodes than Don Davis, but was still in a considerable amount.

You've actually included factually incorrect information, although filmed in canada it is not set in canada, cheyenne mountain is supposed to be in colorado, and its the US military which should have been a pointer to the fact it was supposed to be in the US and not in canada, if you'd like a link leave me a message and I'll give you it.
