    Advantages Advantages Atkinson is a skilful writer and her descriptive prose is outstanding

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Too many stereotypes, some very dubious plot devices

    I am a sucker for Sainsbury's two books for £7 offer but sometimes struggle to find a book to go with the one I really, really want. So it was I found myself browsing for a book to read a couple of weeks ago and having read the blurb for Kate Atkinson's Started Early, Took My Dog which included a quote from The Times proclaiming the book as "a comic novel of great wit and virtuosity" that I decided this might be something I enjoyed so in my basket it went.     I first came across the author Kate Atkinson whilst browsing in an airport book shop and have been a firm fan ever since. Last summer I bought her latest novel, started early took my dog, on holiday with me. The novel is the fourth in the series featuring private detective Jackson Brody, although you don’t need to have read any of the others to make sense of this one. The story features retired police officer Tracy Waterhouse who encounters a screaming child whilst shopping in Leeds.
