As I said previously these are teen books, but if - like me - you pick up your kids books in desperation at having nothing else to read I can assure you that you will LOVE these books.
This is a fabulously hilarious series of books, a shame to be wasted on the younger generation !! The thing is, no matter what age you are these books make you laugh ---- not a snigger, not a little giggle but a good old fashioned, side splitting belly laugh.
STARTLED BY HIS FURRY SHORTS
As the book opens we find our insane heroine, "On the rack of romance. And also in the oven of luurve." - Georgia speak for being in love - as she waits to hear if Masimo, the Italian Stallion of her dreams, will heed her ultimatum of being faithful alone to her or their relationship is over.
But Georgia is not the most faithful of girlfriends herself, she still has feelings for her first boyfriend - Robbie, who went to New Zealand to "snog with marsupials",will she ever be able to forget "the Sex God" plucking his guitar "strings of loveosity"? Then there's Dave the Laugh, her old friend and lip-nibbling partner - just what is a girl to do?
What Georgis does is try to distract herself, and she has several ( hilarious) distractions as is natural with such an insane group of family members and friends. There is the improvised fire juggling as she and her friends practise for Macbeth (aka MacUseless)There are her embarrasing parents - her father who wears leather pants and a mother who thinks she is a teenager; then her grandfather with the wonderful girlfriend who has the wonderful hobby of knitting balaclavas without eye holes, the bald uncle who loves Abba's Dancing Queen and her ( very weird) younger sister Libby who puts makeup on a statue of Jesus and call Him Sandra.
Added to these problems she is also helping Ro-Ro plan a Viking wedding that will take place in five years time, Jas and Tom are still hunting for interesting lizards and her mad cats - Angus and Gordy - are still causing problems ( and laughs).
With the MacUseless rehearsals Dave the Laugh is around more than ever - and Georgia is finding herself more and more pre-occupied with kissing him. If only Masimo would just give her the answer to her ultimatum , she could spend all of her time kissing him - or at least dreaming about kissing him; but what if her Italian dreamboat picks Wet Lindsay over her !!!! This book has a cliff hanging finish that makes you want to read book 8.
Fortunately Georgia is able to write in her diaries, a place where she can vent her anger and work out her feelings - and give us, the reader, a great laugh.
What Louise Rennison does is to bring the teenager out in all of - no matter what the age!!
If you have teenage daughters introduce them to these books (after vetting them yourself of course) or even nip to the library and take them out for an imaginary teen, I would recommend that you start with the first book - Angus, Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging.
Okay this is not great writing, it is not a 'classic but it
Summary: Don't read it in a public place - it is laugh (very loudly) out loud funny!!

Review of ...Startled by His Furry Shorts!' (Confessions of Georgia Nicolson) - Louise Rennison
More escapades from Georgia Nicolson and the ace gang. This addition to the confessions of Georgie is just as funny as every single one before. This time Georgie asks Masimo to be her boyfriend, we follow her agonising wait for his answer as she once again finds herself fighting for her love God against wet Lindsay. Angus, the ace gang and Libby are all back again to feature in this installment of Georgia's mishaps. The language in these books still ... ...as "aggers" (agony) "boy entrancers" false eyelashes. I have been reading these stories for many years past the targeted audience age of 14 as I still love the characters. These are stories for females of all ages and can also be enjoyed by boys that are interested in getting into the female mind. ...
