Advantages: none that are obvious to me! Disadvantages: possibly an expensive waste of time
...read numerous reviews on the Polti & on the whole they appear to be good, I am only presuming I must be doing something wrong!
I have owned my Polti for nearly three years, every so often I reject a thought of taking it to a boot sale (mainly because of how much it cost me) and instead have another go at cleaning my house, full of optimism & with a great deal of steam.... I was recommended this ' absolutely amazing piece of equipment by a friend ... ...I have also found the Polti very good at leaving my windows smeary, useless on lime scale and completely incomparable to heavy detergent and elbow grease on medium to heavy soiled kitchen equipment. In fact the only thing I can recommend it for is clearing away the white residue left by oven cleaner but I'm not sure that is worth all the effort of unpacking, assembling and waiting for water to turn to steam!

Review of Polti VT2400
Advantages: Heats to steam quickly - probably heat of kills germs as steam is hot Disadvantages: Leaves floors very, wet. End up double cleaning everything - covers poor - waste of space!
Not impressed with the H20 steam mop product, which falls far short of the detailed TV advert performance.
On hard floors it leaves them sopping wet, not so much of a problem on a matt finish amtico type floor but with laminate, there's no way you could leave it .
Ended up with twice the work, having to use my superwonder mop to wipe all excess water to leave floor with decent finish when dry.
Even on clean carpet which is just being freshened ... ...it seems to roll any dirt in almost fluff balls which then have to be vacuumed again when it dries. It seems to double the work involved whatever the surface.
The covers provided are also pretty poor in fit and quality with a tendency to come off - difficult to put back on with heat. Also they seem to fall to bits somewhat (particulary the blue micro cover which bits fall off - only used it 2 times)
Overall I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and ...
...carpet. When I contacted Bissell about this they were next to useless in their response. Eventually however, it was picked up for repair after many phone calls and letters were sent to Bissell. The machine was eventually returned to me however, on unpacking it, I found that both back wheels had been smashed. More phone calls and letter ensued. Finally after even more phone calls and letters they promised to send a replacement machine. The second ... ...to work. It started emitting a strong burning smell and then stopped working. This machine has given me nothing but grief during the time I have owned it. I am now going to experience the greatest joy and pleasure of taking it down to the local council tip for disposal and will have the pure delight of seeing it finally leave my house for good. I shall be so very glad to see the back of it. So PLEASE, Please DO NOT waste any of your hard earned cash ...

...I finally opted for the Domotec Super Elite DSC00013. As I spent so much time reviewing steam cleaning equipment I have summarised the specifications on http://www.ucanclean.co.uk where you can compare models and add reviews.
So far this steam cleaner has been absolutely brilliant, its so powerful.
The Domotec DSC00013 has a good specification and is provided with a versatile range of tools including 2 extension tubes which permit reaching ceilings ... ...rate at 130 gm/min. The Domotec lifted easy stains on a few passes. For more stubborn stains I had to leave the floor/carpet tool over the stain for 30 seconds. One stain which appeared to be engine oil (according to my wife who knows these things), I used the concentrator nozzle for 20 seconds. Waited 10 mins for the carpet to dry and then vacuumed out dirt residue and then repeated. This technique works on the stubborn stains, even the "engine ...

This product is fairly priced but if I were to buy one again I would definately spend a little more next time and go for a much better model. I would highly reccommend anyone looking at purchasing such an item to do a great deal of research before buying one. I used the cleaner on my kitchen floor first... big mistake. The floor was much wetter than I would of expected it to be and in my oppinion did not seem a great deal cleaner once finished. Next ... ...to clean between the tiles, supposedly bringing them up like new... no such luck. Did not clean them as expected, a better job would have been done with a bathroom spray and cloth. (which I later had to do) I have also since tried using the macine on my windows with the attachments provided but the results left little to be desired.
