The Steinway Model D has been the acknowledged #1 piano for over a hundred years and with very good reason.

The evenness of touch over the 88 keys is quite matchless, and each department moves into the next with no discernable difference. The bass and the tenor reaches make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck time after time after time.

This is apparently due to the double crown in the soundboard. The totally remarkable action flatters your pianistic skill and those fumbling runs on other pianos become a positive pleasure to play as your fingers find new levels of skill.

Above all I find it's a piano I want to come back to time and time again and has rekindled my desire to practice and improve.

The ability to play from pppp to rfffz is quite mind-blowing and it is so easy to make parts in the middle ring out while those below and above merely accompany.

In short it really is the pianist's piano and while I've played Bechsteins, Bluthners, Bosendorfers and Fazioli, I have never found a piano that encourages me to play more than this one.

I have the honour of owning one I can play whenever I like, and would sell everything else I own first before selling this piano. I am totally besotted by it.
