Ask any of the top pianists in the world and they will tell you just how good they are. Simply, if you can afford a Steinway concert grand, and have the space to house one – buy one!
Space is a major concern. The length of one of these magnificent instruments alone is larger than an average room. To get the best sound out of one, you also have to consider the space in which the sound has to move. A concert grand in a room barely big enough to house the instrument will produce an overpowering, stuffy sound. They are really built and designed for concert halls – for large rooms and small halls consider the excellent model B. If you have the space and the room – buy one!

Recommendations for purchasing were that such auspices like Richter and Pollini who played these pianos meant that they must be of superb quality and I found out that they were, also everyone I know who is a musician like myself recommends these pianos expensive as they are. ...

Advantages: Combines the attributes of a top piano, with a reasonable size Disadvantages: Still a little pricey for most people!
My personal favourite in the Steinway family is the model B. It is a happy medium between getting a rich full-bodied sound, and space. The uprights, though super instruments tend to be a little weak, as do some of the smaller grandpianos. The SteinwaymodelD (as I have said in my review) tends to be a little overpowering in enclosed spaces. The model B has all the sound attributes associated with a Steinway, but is much more suited to reasonable sized rooms.
It is a piano, which has sufficient power to fill a small to medium, sized hall, but similarly could be reserved for home use, if you have a reasonably large room in which to house it. A perfect medium ? buy one, if you can afford it! ...
