I, like millions of men, women and all to frequently children enjoy a beer. Over the Evolution of me I have evolved from a Bitter drinker to (when I was living in Germany) a Pilsner drinker. Some of the best drinks in the world come from Europe for example – Warsteiner (A.K.A Wobbly) from Germany to Grolsh from Holland. But over here in the good old UK we have embraced Stella from Belgium to our bosom…

No chemicals, no colourings in fact I’d say it’s better than most herbal remedies! (XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) Slanderous joke removed hehehehe.
Stella is a fairly strong drink and at 5.2% alcohol by volume 1 pint is going to put you over the legal drink drive limit (for the average person), Stella has also been given a bad name – usually from the men – its commonly known as “Wife Beater” as us Brits tend not to be able to drink socially, we go out get pissed have a fight in the street or go home and slap about the other half! (Crass Generalisation I know and I do apologise to the average consumer). Like most European lagers Stella is best drunk out of a smaller glass (330ml) with a thick head and drunk slowly (Chilled to @ 4 – 6oC). UK drinking habits tend to mean this drink is drunk in pint glasses to excess causing us to become drunk possibly leading to our arrest and a night “chillin’ off in the cells” or waking up in a pool of wee, sick or poo (sometimes all three) sporting a thick head!
But enough of me slagging off my fellow UK drinkers- what is this fabled drink like to, uh, drink? This is my favourite part of the Op! The market research!!!
Can 1 – as with its 23 friends it has been sat in my fridge for over 24 hours having been purchased at Tesco’s at a cost of £ 17.48 (and for you mathematic nerds out there that equates to £1.66 per litre.) So can 1 has been cracked open and slowly poured into a pint glass. Already the glass is beginning to “sweat” or gather condensation on the outside – I’ll spare you the science… Can 1 has a clear golden yellow liquid with a lovely white head, the sight of this is causing my mouth to salivate (please note. For this experiment, my kids are away at mates having been invited out to different sleepovers, I am also single as well so no other persons can be harmed in the doing of this experiment). Oh! Can 1 has gone, I simply had a taste which was a clean crisp and ever so slightly sharp taste – I could liken it to – Barley with hops and water. After a couple of tastes the remaining 440ml can in the pint glass seemed to slip down my neck of its own accord – it went down smooth, like a, like a – pint of Stella slipping down your neck!
Can 2 – Opens with a satisfying hiss, the liquid has the same colour and consistency as can 1, so far so good. I’ll test the bouquet… Sniiiiiiiiif! Yep it’s Stella all right, and the taste test confirms it! I can discern no real difference between can 1 and can 2. Oh the glass is empty again…
Can 3 – While pouring this can I am distracted to my CD cabinet, I somehow feel the need to get some music on the go, hmmm I’ve now got Nirvana (MTV Live on the go) Again this can is pleasing on the palette, thoughts of me having to walk down the road pick the boys up from their mates go back with them before getting on public transport into the city so we can go swimming are entering my mind – this could be a self defence mechanism to stop imbibing Stella! There’s still 1/3 of a glass to go…. And it’s… gone.
Can 4 – Again pleasing to the eye and palette, quite a bit more head in this glass… possibly due to the poring style (or lack of) it’s quite thick and creamy. This doesn’t spoil the enjoyment of the liquid though. Oop! Need a wee, wee! - Back! Remaining liquid now completed. Somehow the music sounds muted, I’ll just turn it up a notch! They are playing “Come as you are!” my fave song on this album.
Can 5 – is a naughty little can! She slipped out of my hand and onto the floor – I put her back in the fridge and collected Can 6 in her place. It’s remarkable each and every can tasted just the same, the last is just as fresh as the first, they all smell the same – it’s a slightly musty yet pleasing smell. Even though this one is nearly complete now, there is something missing – I’m note quite sure what though…
Can 7 - see above as to why we are on 7 and not 6… I’ve figured out what is missing! Food! I think a nice Ruby Murray, or a kebab would follow this can just nicely – we’ll see… lets change the music here – think I’ll put my DJ Tiesto CD on (live at the RAI Amsterdam)
Can 8 – been on the phone and ordered a chicken tikka naan kebab £4.75 expensive but WELL worth it – free delivery as well as I know the takeaway well :o) it occurs to me if I can get a free meal if I do an Op on my Fave takeaway! I’ll put that to Jamal when I see him next :o) :o)
Can 9 – Tipped the delivery guy! He got here quick! I was right Stella compliments food! I’m going to eat this drink the rest of the can – the glass is in the kitchen somewhere – then I’m off to bed.
Stella? Oh yeah! It’s nice! I know I wont have a raging hangover in the morning! I know the kids won’t be back till I get them! (Made that mistake before! See past ops!) Moreover I had fun doing this op! (Thank god for spell checker on ms word!!)
I'm quite loyal to this brand - however i also change to Grolsh, Warsteiner and when possible Effes every now and again.
Advantages: High alcohol content, crisp and fresh taste. Disadvantages: High alcohol content, more expensive than most other beers.
...all; a few pints of Stella the night before somehow turned that thing lying next to you on the Sunday morning into Kylie and to save face you tell her that the front door is [honestly] damaged, and that she really does have to leave via your bedroom window and slide down the drain pipe. Having said that, a few pints of the stuff the next weekend will result in you finding her even worse mate looking just as ‘beautiful’ come closing time. I bought 4 x 500ml cans in my local Spar for £4.00 which is not bad for quality lager.
The can itself is mainly white in colour with a gold and red emblem dispaying the famous words "Stella Artois" on the front.
Even though this is branded as "Belgiums original beer," it is actually manufactured in the UK, in Luton.
The lager is 5.2% vol, and the can contains 2.6 UK units of alcohol (something that ... ...Unfortunately, a pint of Stella can be a little "flat" as you reach the end. Unlike some other lagers on the market, there is no gadget that enables the lager to keep it's "head" (no jokes please JillMurphy !).
As I still have a cold I cannot smell a great deal but I can taste it and by heck does it taste nice ! The lager itself does have a "thick" texture, due to the strength of it, which I like. Other lagers seem like water by comparison. By the ...

...be back, why write about Stella in my time off? Well, last night on the train coming home I had nothing but Stella to drink and I have noticed that although Kronenbourg1664 used to be me favourite, somehow, Stella have crept over and taken over my stomach and head.
Us squaddies spend most of our Saturday nights drinking this even when not supposed, but this Jammy guy got a smart little place to keep it ready for us to drink, so providing my Sgt. ... ...enjoyed my first pint of Stella Artois. I’ll talk a little more about that when it comes to taste. But since these I started training hard and drinking slightly heavy on the Stella by tap I’ve found that I enjoy it more and can handle alcohol better too which saves broken tables and lairy fist fights from being on my good night out.

...bars and pop open the Stella Artois. Now why in the heck would the good folks in frozen Caledonia - land of the most excellent malty ales - crack open bottles of foreign fizzy lager. Easy peasy. Due to the outrageous and punitive duties and taxes, there is a thriving market for alcohol and tobacco that has been brought into the country from continental Europe. Therefore, if you know a guy, and everybody does, you can get a case of 2 dozen 330ml bottles ... ...THE BEER ~~~~~~~~
Stella Artois, brewed in Leuven in Belgium in the Bohemian Pilsner style using fine Czech Saaz hops, is very popular in the UK and other Northern European countries. In my view Belgium, a very small country, produces an astonishing variety of great beers. However, whilst Stella Artois is a GOOD beer I would not rate it as among the best that Belgium has to offer. As the adverts state, Stella Artois is reassuringly expensive – and they aren’t wrong there. The whole Stella thing began back in 1717 when the Leuven Brewery in Belgium brewed special ale just for Christmas each year (The star on the logo is a Christmas star, apparently). However people thought that this Christmas lager was something special and so Stella Artois hit the mainstream and is now classed as one of the finest lagers on the globe. How ... ...multipack of Stella bottles, each bottle has a fact about the lager on the label. So you can learn something new, get drunk, then forget it. The ale is 5.2% which is rather strong for a normal lager and if you have a few two many you will be left with one of those hangovers that make you vow to “never drink again.” The taste of the drink is where Stella proves itself. OK, maybe not. I've only just written about Carling beer - rather weak and gassy, in another opinion, now it's the turn of something stronger and classier!!
I'm not a great one for drinking lagers and beers these days - I used to favour bitter and stout but am now more inclined towards wine or spirits. However I do get to taste a variety of lagers courtesy of my boyfriend who is rather partial and doesn't stay overly loyal to any one brand/type.
I know two of his favourites are StellaArtois and Grolsch PremiumLager - so we'll examine the latter today! They do have impressive bottles I must admit - especially the larger sizes which have the trademark flip open top with metal clips. Whatever size bottle you opt for it comes in sturdy green glass emlazoned with "Grolsch" and their insignia on it.

Nastro Azzuro is most easily compared with the UK king of premiumlager: StellaArtois.
To many Stella is a 'wife-beater' cocktail of chemicals and alcohol and Nastro a posh beer associated with Italian restaurants. And this is true. To an extent.
Nastro Azzuro's most distinguishing feature is its apparently clean taste. Compared to Kronenbourg, Grolsh and Stella it has a distinctly refreshing taste. This suggests a taste similar to a Germanically styled, chemically limited beer, but it is infact far different.
To my mind Nastro should be grouped with the common premiumlagers found in England, but as something of a gem. At 5.1% it has a taste that will satisfy even the most bloody-minded strong beer fan (such as myself) but because the alcoholic taste is relatively subtle it can also appeal to those who appreciate the more ...

Hello it is 5%, it is fairly strong and it is reasonable in price. The name of this lager is GROLSH you can buy 15, 440ml cans for £15.99?how is that for value.
Most major supermarkets sell it?. Prices may vary.
As with most lagers it claims to be genuine. It is a Dutch PremiumLager that contains the finest ingredients.
The tin is silver in colour with the word GROLSCH written in green writing, underneath you will see the words premiumlager in red writing.
The taste of this lager is quite bitter, not like StellaArtois, which is mildish and sweeter
But at that price who am I to complain.
The colour of the lager is golden orange; the head on it, when you pour it is fairly reasonable. If poured correctly.
Would I buy it again?
No only if my funds are running low.
