As the adverts state, Stella Artois is reassuringly expensive – and they aren’t wrong there. The whole Stella thing began back in 1717 when the Leuven Brewery in Belgium brewed special ale just for Christmas each year (The star on the logo is a Christmas star, apparently). However people thought that this Christmas lager was something special and so Stella Artois hit the mainstream and is now classed as one of the finest lagers on the globe. How do I know these facts? Well if you buy a multipack of Stella bottles, each bottle has a fact about the lager on the label. So you can learn something new, get drunk, then forget it.
The ale is 5.2% which is rather strong for a normal lager and if you have a few two many you will be left with one of those hangovers that make you vow to “never drink again.”
The taste of the drink is where Stella proves itself. You can taste the quality of the drink as it is crisp, refreshing and has a wonderful aftertaste too. Also unlike most alcoholic drinks, it doesn’t dry your mouth out. Stella Artois tastes better off the tap in a pub but the quality is downgraded a little in bottles and cans but still is of a better quality than most lagers.
Stella Artois is a clear golden shade and as with most lagers is best served ice cold. I most prefer a nice cold pint of Stella on a hot summer afternoon, it is much more refreshing than an ice cream or something. Unless they’re planning on making a Stella Flavoured Ice cream… I might have to patent that one actually!
Stella in the UK is rarely imported, it is brewed in the UK and has been since 1926. If you make a pilgrimage to Belgium to taste Stella on the tap there it is even nicer than it is on the tap in the UK, or so some friends of mine will have me believe; It is also much cheaper over there too.
As with all my alcohol reviews I just have to give you all a mix including the product I am reviewing. Don’t worry, this is no exception. I dub this mix the Starry Eyed Surprise – have a few and you’ll know what I’, talking about!
- Take a chilled pint glass and drop a few blocks of ice into it
- Shake a bottle of Stella Artois a bit then open it so you get a load of froth, tip the froth into the glass.
- Top the glass up to about half way with cider (I recommend Blackthorn – see my opinion of it for more details)
- Fill the rest of the glass up with Stella
- Leave for a few minutes then enjoy
As far as prices go, Stella is pretty expensive. For a pint in a pub you’ll pay around £2.10 (that’s how much it is in my local). A 12 pack of bottles cost me £9 for my local Morrisons, not a bad price at all. Cans are around £1.10 each and you can pick up a 12 pack of half-litre cans for about £14.

If it was possible to agree with you any more i would, lol. Stella is by far the king of beers for me, better than Bud any day of the week, especially a hot summers day. Cheers, Craig.

Great info, I'll look out for the factoids on the bottles! Stella gets me really drunk really quick, though, so I'm sure I'll forget them pronto :-)
Advantages: Tasty, clean crisp flavour, Moorish, can drink it all night Disadvantages: Expensive, can remain over the limit for driving for the whole of the next day
