I am a bit of a flutterbrain to say the least. I am constantly forgetting things and drive myself crazy.

Anyway, the other day, while my husband was out at work I set off with the little uns just to the shop around the corner to buy some bread. I didn't take a bottle for my 4 month old daughter Mia as I thought I'd be there and back in two minutes.

Just as I shut the front door I realised that I'd locked my keys inside the house and myself and kids out! duh!

Normally this would not pose too much of a dilema, I'd just look round the shops or visit someone until my hubby got home three hours later. However, I had Mia with me and there was no way she would get through the next three hours without her current hourly bottle of milk she has!

I panicked as I realised that even if I bought her a new feeding bottle I would not be able to use it as it would not be sterile and could make her very ill.
It was in my panic, frantically searching through the shelves of Boots for a solution that I found steribottles. I bought a packet of these and some pre-mixed SMA milk and my problem was solved.

They are sold in cardboard boxes of four, each bottle individually wrapped in a plastic bag to keep it sterile. The bottles are disposable but this does not make them in the least bit fragile or bendy and they are just like normal bottles to use.

The teats are slow flow which is ideal for new babies but older ones might find them a bit frustrating as the milk comes out slowly.

The bottles will hold up to nine ounces of milk and have markings down the side so you can tell how much your baby has taken.

They are only suitable for one use and then must be disposed of, you cannot re-sterilise them and use them again. However they all come with lids so if your baby does not take all of the milk in one sitting you can replace the lid and refridgerate the bottle until they need it.

You should wash your hands thoroughly before opening the packet containing the bottle. After this you can be reassured that the bottle will be sterile.

Mia did not seem to notice the difference between the steribottle and her normal bottle and drank from it just as happily.

A box of 4 steribottles costs £1.99, which is okay for the odd emergency or perhaps on holiday where it may be hard to sterilise bottles but is otherwise expensive. In fact it is 50p per bottle more expensive. Babies can take between 6 and 8 bottles a day so it could cost you an extra £4 a day and that's on top of the formula milk. So unless you have money to burn I suggest you use normal re-usable bottles most of the time.

It is reassuring to keep them in mind though if you are a flutterbrain like me!!!

Thanks for reading xxx

Hi - great op. Wish I had known about these when Jack was a bit younger. At 8 months now, I don't think that he'd put up with the slow flow teat. Its a shame that they don't do them with various teats!! Tina xx
