Advantages A natural, drug free alternative

Disadvantages None except slight salt water taste at back of the throat

I have suffered from blocked sinuses on and off for many years, and as usual, it was the dull, "stuffed up" feeling and the pain in my forehead which sent me scuttling to the Pharmacy for help.

I am lucky, my pharmacist knows me well, and when I asked for some tablets to clear my sinuses, he patiently explained that my sinuses were in fact dry, the tablets I requested would only dry them more - and then produced a spray can of SEA WATER ! I have infinate trust in him and it sounded logical that the spray would indeed dampen the dry area and thus cure the problem. Additionally, I am willing to try anything natural as apposed to taking yet another tablet.

On arrival home I duly sprayed the micro fine spray into each nostril (it has a specially shaped top to ensure you get it right!) - and low and behold (after running for a box of tissues) boy oh boy, did it WORK! Without being gross, everything which had been blocking up my sinuses ended up on those tissues within minutes, the pain in my head cleared and I felt like I had a new respitory system installed.

Intrigued by the effectiveness of Sterimar, I did some research (my first thought - well, of course it makes sense, look what happens when you swim in the sea).

Sterimar is a 100ml nasal spray (also available in 50ml) which contains pure sea water spray which naturally moisturises and cleanses nasal passages. As a natural product, it can be used as often as required (although I found it so effective I did not need to use it that often). I always have a can in the house and reach for it as soon as I feel a cold coming on, or my sinuses begin playing up and it has helped with both. I have recomended it to many of my friends who, after their initial disbelief that sea water can have such great properties, they too are avid fans.

Pure sea water has been recognised for centuries for its health benefits as it is rich in salts, minerals and trace elements. Sterimar uses waters from the coast of France and during manufacture it produces an aseptic sea water solution which is free of any preservatives.

Although I used it for clearing my sinuses, it is in fact recommended by specialists for congestion, blocked noses,to help with the first signs of a cold (helping prevent deeper infections and bronchial/pulmonary complications). It can assist if you suffer from allergies and rhinitis, and may actually help antibiotic, anti-inflamatory or antihistamine treatments to be more effective.

It is also useful when you have the central heating going full blast to moisturise dried up nasal passages, aids preventing infection in air conditioned atmospheres, blocked ears on airplanes and annoyance in smokey atmospheres.

It is even claimed that a squirt before bedtime may help snoring problems (sorry ladies,or gents, it does not claim to prevent them completely !).

In short, Sterimar is very handy to have around, in whatever situation where you would like to "clear the air" !

I highly recommend it. The only slight side effect is that you will get the taste of sea water at the back of your throat, but it´s advantages far outweigh that small disadvantage.

Interesting information, I'm wondering if it's made by the same people who produce 'Audiclear', an ear cleaning mist made from French sea water?
