Advantages Advantages fun story, rhymes, nice pictures

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

Stick man is a book that I purchased for my son as a gift for Christmas last year. What drew me to the book was the fact that it was by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler who worked together on the Gruffalo books and I personally love those books and so does my son so I thought it would be likely that we would enjoy this book too. The stick man book that we have comes in a paper back version. The front cover shows a smiling stick man running through the snow as a dog and fox seem to be watching on. The front cover is really well drawn and makes the book seem appealing as far as I am concerned ... more

    Advantages Advantages great story

Disadvantages Disadvantages not for you if you don't like rhyming stories

In the World of Children's Books, there can be some pretty varied items taking the role of main character; amongst some of our favourite books a teddy bear, varied assorted animals are featured, and in an earlier book by Julia Donaldson the author of this book, it is a very brave snail who is the hero. It's fair to say, however, that when I first opened this book to read it I couldn't see how a stick was necessarily material for a major character or interesting story. I should, perhaps, have known better than to underestimate the powers of Donaldson, who has here once again teamed up with Alex ... more

My daughters and I have enjoyed many lovely stories by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler so we were very excited to read their latest offering 'Stick Man'. We were not disappointed at all and in fact I think this is their most enjoyable book to date. It has all the ingredients you would expect - a lovely story told through rhyme, a gentle rhythm, well chosen words and wonderful illustrations. This book was a joy to read and I know that we will be returning to it many times. At the start of the book we are introduced to our main character: Stick Man lives in the family tree With his Stick Lady ... more

Advantages Advantages A wonderful bedtime story.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages None at all.

Stick Man was written by Julia Donaldson and it was published for Christmas 2008. Although it has a Christmas theme it is a story that children can enjoy at any time of the year. My little nephew has the hard back copy which we bought from W.H.Smith and it cost just under ten pounds but the paperback copy is a good few pounds cheaper. Considering that the book is nearly a year old it is still in very good condition, the hardback cover can be wiped over and the pages inside are good quality paper. Julia Donaldson has written some incredible children's stories and although we have read some of ... more

Disadvantages Disadvantages a lot going on

As soon as we received the Gruffulo last year as a present, we have been reading more titles from Julia Donaldson as my daughter has really taken to her rhyming style of writing. We saw Stick Man in the library so we added it to our pile. I think this week it has been the most well read book in our house. Stick Man is yes you guessed it a stick. Unlike any other stick he is about to go on a journey through the book trying to find his way home to his “family tree”. The book starts when stick man leaves his tree to go for a jog, but soon gets chased by a dog. Escaping from the dog, poor stick ... more
