If you are looking to cut privet hedge or conifer these cutters are ideal as they will go through around 20mm branch thicknesses fairly comfortably and leave an excellent finish without too much repeat cutting.
On larger leaves such as lorrell the finish isnt quite as good as the cutting depth of the teeth on either side of the blade isnt quite enough to make a clean cut of an average sized lorrell leaf. This can mean the finish has more of a "ripped" through rather than cut look.
For prolonged periods the trimmers are reasonably comfortable to use periods as the weight is distributed almost perfectly towards the guiding handle, so you are unlikely to let the blade dip and ruin whatever it is you are cutting.
The blades obviously lose sharpness with use but deteriorate no more quickly than any other cutters I have used. If oiled after each use (just a quick spray with WD40 or something similar) then there should be no problems with sticking or excessive wear and tear on the blades.
Generally the motor on these will start after two or three pulls with the choke engaged on a warm day. On colder days three presses of the fuel pump and three or four pulls with the choke on should do the trick.
Overall these cutters are worth the money if they are going to be used frequently. For small hedges it is probably better to buy something a little cheaper and having a bit more patience to achieve a good cut.
make sure you always wear good ear protection with these.

They do not need a lot of maintenance a quick spray of oil after use, and a service once a year, I sharpen mine with a dremmel. I would reccommend the hs45 for larger hedges, as they are well up to the job, I have used them on my conifer hedge, where it gives a really nice finish, privot hedge are a blast and im sure i will be turning my hedge into a work of art soon. ...
