Advantages Advantages Small, some good courses, cheap living costs

Disadvantages Disadvantages Town people / shopping/

The Uni 60's buildings, usually quite cold but they've made an effort to do some of the main buildings up in recent years. If you don't like breeze block buildings & accomadation (see later) , ducks, wildlife, don't go to Stirling Uni. There are 2 main teaching areas, 5 minutes walk from each other. The campus, as previous threads state is great, v.scenic and picturesque. The buildings don't really fit in but you get used to them after a while. Studying- Decent sized library, although many of the books are old. A short loan section ensures you'll most likely be able to get hold of the most ... more

Advantages Advantages 4 pubs 2 nightclubs, easy travel links, great choice of courses, good sporting facilities.

    Disadvantages Disadvantages parking is scarce.

Stirling Uni is situated inbetween Edinburgh and Glasgow. It also gives easy reach to the Trossacs and Perth. The uni is situated in Bridge of Allan which is 10 mins outside of Stirling, Bridge of Allan has numerous pubs, takeaways and shops to save students going into Stirling. The campus is one of the most stunning in the UK. The main building, residences and sport centre are situated around the loch. The residences are arranged in blocks, each room as ample storage, desk, bed and a washbasin. There is a kitchen, bathrooms on each floor. There are on-suite rooms available there are situated ... more

Advantages Advantages Less pressured study with the semester system, the degree is made up of units. Good teaching.

Disadvantages Disadvantages Dull union bar/club. Poor student accommodation.

I decided to go to Stirling University because of their American style semester system. There is continuous assessment - not one huge final exam so the pressure is diluted. There is also great flexibility as you have to take three subjects in your first year and can go on to do any of these or a combination of two as your final degree. I started studying Psychology and Computing but am now doing English. I moved over to the arts because I was so impressed with the free style of teaching; and the encourageing attitude of the tutors and department as a whole, for new ideas and outlooks. The ... more

Advantages Advantages a good uni, nice campus

    Disadvantages Disadvantages slightly annoying weather

Stirling Uni is actually nearer Bridge of Allen but anyway.. I'm in my second year of first year here now, I started in September 2003 and decided at Christmas to take a semester off so have restarted this September 2004. The plus points for me were the course I wanted at grades I thought I could obtain (I didn't but was lucky), the two semester system (2, 15 week blocks, with 10 teaching weeks and 5 exams weeks), exams before Christmas and resits after, so much better than exams after Christmas to my mind after all who wants to spoil Christmas by revising all the time. And of course the ... more

Advantages Advantages Broad choice of degrees to study, Lovely surrounding and near to city centre

Disadvantages Disadvantages no good pubs/clubs on campus and not very good IT facilities

I currently attend Stirling University and I am doing a degree on Environmental Geography, and in my opinion Stirling University has it all. Not only is there a wide and varied choice of degrees to choose from, there is also flexibility when choosing your modules, especially in the first two years. For example, even though I am currently studying geography, I can choice two other modules to study during the semester ranging from English to history, to sociology to aquatic studies. Thus allow you to have a broad range of knowledge in several subjects. Stirling has great degrees available in ... more
