Advantages Beautiful to look at, safe and comfortable

Disadvantages None

We bought a Stokke Tripp Trapp after strong recommendations from several friends, and if I am honest, because of the way it looks. The Stokke is a lovely chair, in a different league to other high chairs on the market. Its a sleek wooden high chair and comes in a wide range of colours and finishes.

We bought from a specialist site called back in action as they have a nice "design" facility on their website which helps you choose colours and accessories. As high chairs go its probably one of the most expensive on the market at around £100 plus £20 for the baby set, but I would rate it good value because of the quality and the fact that it can be used for years.

For a baby you really do need to have the "baby set" fitting for the chair. However on a cautionary note we also bought the art stripe cushions because they look so funky, but we soon stopped using them. We found that our baby was perfectly comfortable and safe without them, and they were just a pain as they got dirty each meal time and so constantly needed washing. The chair itself on the other hand is very easy to clean.

Looks aside, the Stokke has many other things going for it. The design is simple and it is easy to assemble, and to adjust over time as your baby grows. The idea of this chair is that with adjustments it will last as a chair for your child for years, and I do have several friends whose older children continue to use theirs.

The chair has also converted me to the idea of having the baby at the table. We always eat together and this makes meal times sociable and fun and she enjoys being at the table.

In terms of comfort and safety, our baby is very small and yet was able to sit in this chair comfortably and confidently (with the baby set) from 6 months old. She was not really able to sit safetly in other high chairs (in restaurants & cafes) until she was about 8 months. Although she was a fairly confident sitter we found that many other high chairs gave her too much room to move around and so were not safe for her.

The Stokke does not fold down, but then that is not really the point of this chair. Ours sits around the table and this means that our little girl has her own chair at the table. Its not a bulky chair and takes up less space than a standard dining chair, and as above its the kind of chair you will want to show off rather than to hide.

This is one of the best and most satisfying purchases we have made as new parents and we look forward to our little girl using it for many years to come.
