Targus Defcon 1 Security Alarm
Review of Targus Defcon 1 by
bindie
Advantages: Small, Loud, Inexpensive
Disadvantages: None As Yet
This little unit is extremely helpful. It is a little black box that can easily fit into your laptop case with your laptop. It requires two AA batteries to work, and is extremely loud if tampered with. It has many features which can help you make sure that your laptop will be secure.
On the top it has a four digit combination, and a meter length cable. This cable is long enough to be wrapped around a radiator or fixed table several times then to ... ...It has a Kensington lock which is the industry standard in laptop security. The unit has a button at the bottom which when pressed and held activates the movement alarm. Once this has been done, a red light flashes. If the unit gets moved, the alarm gives off a small beep to warn that the box has been moved. If the box gets moved a lot more, then a 110 decibel alarm sounds until the combination has been put in, or the alarm has been going for more ...

No need to buy any more memory cards!
Review of Archos 4-in-1 CompactFlash Adapter by
ross88guy
Advantages: Compact and Does what is is designed to do, good online support
Disadvantages: Can be tricky to use with Archos Media Players
...product as a bright red Archos label takes half of the top face.
The card adaptor performs its functionality seamlessly when used with other card readers. During its use with my Archos AV420 (a media player with a built in compact flash card slot) the card reader was not recognised by the device. This problem was rectified by having to place the adapter in the device before turning it on, but this fact is not advertised on the product or in any ... ...device, as Archos sell it as an accessory for their Media Players I was expecting such a fault to be addressed. Data transfer speeds are similar to using a USB 2.0 device and i had no problems.
Getting hold of this device was challenging in itself, as I had to order it from Archos' European Division, costing around £30. I am glad to see that they are available on both Ebay and other shopping websites listed by Ciao for around £22.
Overall The Archos ...

A handy little gadget
Review of Sandisk MobileMate SD Plus by
Sparklemouse
Advantages: Lightweight, portable, slim
Disadvantages: Protective cap is a bit loose, cards could be vulnerable for the clumsy
I bought this card reader from amazon to speed up transfer of photos between my digital camera and my PC (saves the camera battery). I only used an SD card with the reader, so I cannot comment on the other formats. It is an attractive slim black USB stick with two slots that (the amazon website says) are compatible with the following formats:
MultiMediaCard, SD Memory Card, miniSD, RS-MMC, MultiMediaCardmobile, microSD, MultiMediaCardplus, SDHC ... ...a little skimpy, It was really easy to install on the PC, requiring no software (just put it in a USB slot & let your computer install it for you). Plugging in my SD card was quite simple (do this before you plug the reader into your PC!) but I did feel that the card looked quite vulnerable poking out the side of the reader (could be easy to knock or break?). Transfer of files was very easy & much less fiddly than a camera to PC transfer. Overall, ...

USB Card Reader With Free 1GB SD Card
Review of Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Reader by
Surj1
Advantages: 9 in 1 card reader, 1GB SD card, Compact design
Disadvantages: None
The Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Card Reader is the only device you need to store, transfer and read data on any USB enabled device. As I use a variety of flash cards for mobile phone, digital camera and camcorder.
This card reader is designed with a USB 2.0 connector which is ideal to connect via you PC or laptop. It has memory expansion slots that support nine different types of SD and MMC flash memory cards. It also comes with a 1 GB SD memory ... ...year warranty
Overall the Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 Card Reader is a very useful device if you have a variety of other devices which use media cards for storage. When in use the MobileLite shows as three drive letters G:, H:, I: and transferring data is simply drag and drop. I bought this from Ebay and got it very cheap for £5, it retails at around £20. This was a bargain as you can't even get a 1GB SD card for that price. Overall a decent and ...
