 STOVES Q721EF

I was lucky enough to purchase a new kitchen to replace the tat that was left by its previous owners, so out I went on a mission to find my dream appliances. It did not take me long to find the fridge, dishwasher and the washing machine, but the cooker was a different story.

I knew what I wanted and that it had to be an oven to fit under my worktop with a separate gas hob on the top, it had to fit into my price bracket and had to fit the criteria that I wished for. Don’t want much really!

Stainless steel, double oven, fan assisted, grill, but, I wanted something to last the duration and the rigors that I would throw at it! Mainly the roasting trays when my Yorkshires look like flapjacks!

I came across a particular cooker in a department store and it was manufactured by Stoves, so I searched the internet and found the cooker of my dreams the Stoves Q721EF, its stainless steel looks and slick lines with smoked glass and lots of little buttons the retail price of this cooker £1,400.00, slightly too much for my purse, so I purchased mine through a friend called Bargain Billy and made a saving of £500.00. Totally legit he owns his own electronics company.

This oven does not set out to make you a Delia Smith but can help you on your way. The double oven facility helps you to cook more than one thing at a time, you have a fan assisted oven on the bottom and an electric oven on the top which also houses the grill.

The top oven comes with the standard grill tray, with detachable handle to make removing your cheese on toast from the grill safely. This oven also has the function of if you were cooking in the top oven and you were cooking something like cauliflower cheese or baked Alaska you can set the oven to top heat only and it will brown the food without having to use the grill. If you were cooking pizza or some pies that require crispy bases you turn the oven on to the bottom heat setting and the same technique applies as the top browning.

I only have one problem with the top oven it has no fan so cooking in this oven takes a little longer than the main oven. The grill is a standard grill with the facilities to have either side on, or the main grill on.

The main oven is fantastic, you can defrost food in the oven by turning the knob to defrost fan setting and cool food down in the main oven prior to freezing or refrigerating by setting the defrost fan and opening the door ajar to let the heat escape more quickly.

The main oven also has the functions to switch off cooking at a certain time which is called semi automatic cooking, excellent if you forget to set the timer, or cooking large stew or casseroles. Fully automatic cooking is something that I use quiet a lot, to set the oven to come on for a certain time then switch off when ready, excellent for the Christmas turkey and large joints of meat.

 CLEANING

Cleaning this oven is very simple to clean, the glass in both ovens slide out for cleaning. The trays can take some serious cleaning abuse, which are easily removed and the shelf runners which are all dishwasher proof, but the interior of the oven needs special care and attention when it comes to cleaning, lots of warm soapy water and a nylon pad or nylon brush.

Mr Muscle not recommended for the interior. As for the stainless steel, bleach products are a no go when it comes to cleaning the steel as the chloride can damage the stainless steel.

One thing I do recommend for cleaning stainless steel is a small amount of Baby Oil on kitchen paper and rub into the stainless steel this brings it back up and removes the finger marks.

 MY OPINION

Was it worth the money I paid for it?

In one word Yes.

With the aid of a fan assisted oven food is cooked more evenly and in some cases quicker. Makes superb sponges! Cleaning the oven at the best of times is a job that I really do not like doing, but, I have to admit when I get started I find it quite therapeutic, not being able to use cleaning products on the inside do make the job a little longer, but being able to put the racks and trays in the dishwasher after being blasted with good old Mr Muscle does save time.

The only problem with the oven, being that it is built in under the counter and in reach of little hands the glass like all ovens gets extremely hot.

Also when cooking large joints you have to basically get down on your knees to retrieve your food, but I think that I am to blame for that idea as I wanted a double inbuilt oven and did not have the wall space to have it mounted at eye level.
