ANOTHER BOOZY WHITE ONE 45 of 45 Ciao Users found the following review helpful

Advantages Good quality, nice flavour, too drinkable!

Disadvantages Paying for it! Bit sour

Time for another sophisticated little tipple – well OK, it’s just another wine that I have sampled along the way but I don’t like to disappoint.

It’s another white wine, again I only ended up “testing” (i.e. knocking it back) this one because it was on special offer. This one was priced at three standard 75cl bottles for £10 whereas they normally cost about £4.60 per bottle (in my local Alldays shop, which is always somewhat more expensive than a large supermarket anyway). In supermarkets I’d make an educated guess that this sells for around £4 a bottle.

Produced by Stowells of Chelsea, this is not the first Sauvignon Blanc I have sampled but certainly one of the nicest. This one is a Chilean wine with an unusually high alcohol content of 13% volume – so although it is easy to drink you will know about it after a few glasses. It does have a strong alcohol flavour to it so that should give you a clue!

It’s a classy looking bottle and label and even “Stowells of Chelsea” sounds like a classy brand – indeed many of my favourites are produced by them so they are obviously good at their trade!

This is described as a “full dry white wine” and indeed it is very dry tasting – it is graded ar number 2 on the dryness/sweetness scale (1-9). The label continues that this is a “fruity dry white with tropical fruit aromas and flavours of white peaches and limes”. Well I don’t know about the peaches and tropical fruits but the lime flavour and aroma is certainly pre-dominant – it has quite a sharp taste and after tang to it.

The label gives no indications or recommendations for which food this could accompany but I would say it would go well with the usual white meats, poultry, pasta etc as well as an aperitif. I imagine it would taste pretty awful with anything sweet!

To be fair this is by no means one of my favourites. I would gladly buy it again on offer but would not pay full price for it, for me personally it is a little too dry and sour and overly lime flavoured but this may suit some people perfectly.
