Stowells of Chelsea Tempranillo

Ah! At last – a red one! Wine that is, I have written about numerous white wines and a few beers and for once I thought I’d branch out into the world of red wine as quite a few people leave comments that they prefer red wine. Personally I prefer a medium white wine on the whole but every now and then I indulge in a bottle of red. **** Taste Section Now Added to!! **** OK, so I guess it had to happen - I had to buy a bottle of wine on one of my rare days off. I run a restaurant so have wine aplenty all the other days of the week, and its ALL lovely thanks to our brilliant wine rep Faye, the corporate face of Majestic Wine.... but alas, I am the most disorganised creature on the planet hence - horror - I forgot to pick up a bottle on Monday night to enjoy on Tuesday, so I was reduced to the offerings of our local Filco supermarket. I "discovered" Stowells wines when they offered them at my local Somerfield 3 bottles for £10. I chose 2 white (for the wife!) and a bottle of red for me which happened to be Tempranillo. I went back a bought a futher 3 bottles of just Tempranillo once I had finished the first bottle. Since then, it has become my favourite wine, on my christmas and birthday lists, and i have even bought a few of the 3 litre boxes of the wine (which never seem to last long enough :-( !) I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF SPANISH WINES FOR A LONG TIME AND HAD PREVIOUSLY FAVOURED THE SOFT FRUITY FLAVOUR OF A RIOJA, BUT I FIND THE COLOUR OF THIS WINE A LOVELY DEEP RED BUT IS NOT A HEAVY WINE IN FACT I WOULD SAY IT IS ON THE LIGHTER END OF THE SCALE. IT HAS A SMOOTH TEXTURE WITH SOFT TANNINGS WHICH ALLOWS IT TO BE DRANK WITHOUT A TOO LENGTHY BREATHING PERIOD. THE GENTLE AROMAS OF SPAIN ARE SUPPORTED WITH THE STRAWBERRY AND BERRY CONTENT. THIS FRUITY SENSATIION IS CARRIED THROUGH TO THE TASTING WITH A MILD OAKY BACKGROUND AND LONG LASTING FRUIT FLAVOUR ON THE TONGUE. IT IS WITHIN THE LOW COST ... more
