Strepsils Honey & Lemon Lozenges

Over the past winter I have suffered a lot of different colds, coughs and flues. I think that working with children makes me more likely to come into contact with all the bugs and colds that are passed around. I normally just go to the shop and pick up whatever is cheapest or whichever brand of cough sweets is available cheapest, though I have found that Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are probably one of the best cough sweets to pick up when I have a sore throat.

Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are used to treat a sore throat, they contain antiseptic ingredients to stop your throat infection worsening and also to kill the infection, the active ingredients in Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are 2,4-Dichlorobenzyl Alcohol, Amylmetacresol.

To take these Strepsils you simply suck on it until it disappears, you cannot then take another one for 2 hours and you are allowed to take no more than 12 in one day.

I found that these Strepsils are quite easily eaten, they taste quite nice, though unlike other cough sweets, like Halls Soother, they are not that moreish. There is a slight medical taste from these lozenges, which makes them not taste as sweet as other brand sweets, which in my opinion is good as you don’t find yourself craving another one after you have eaten one.

I found that Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges work really well in reducing throat pain and also throat infection. I find that when I use these lozenges my sore throats are always much less ticklish and I do not suffer the sore throat for as long as usual.

However I do not think that these Strepsils actually stop the pain of a sore throat, and if you have a temperature and other cold or flu symptoms, they do not do much good for those. I use them when my throat has an infection and is very red and sore and they do calm down the symptoms from the infection, but they do not immediately soothe pain.

Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges come in packs of 36 usually, and cost around £3.50 in Boots, you can also buy them in a range of other flavours if honey and lemon does not appeal to you including, Original, Strawberry, Blackcurrant, Cherry and Cool flavour.

Overall I think that these are a great way to treat a sore throat, as they get rid of the infection causing it (provided that it is just a common sore throat) pretty quickly, they are one of the better over the counter medicines that you can buy when you have a sore throat, however, they do not immediately stop the pain of a sore throat, they only really help with the ticklish feeling that comes along with it. Also, they do not do much for blocked noses in my opinion, so if you have more flu symtoms than just a sore throat, these may not be of great use to you.

Strepsils Honey and Lemon lozenges are not suitable for children under 6 years old.
