Well in my last op,I wrote about my sore throat and what I was taking to ease it ;this time my hubby,Tom has got it and he wants something much stronger that’s his words not mine.

He went to the chemist for as you know a sore throat is caused by a virus,and no antibiotics will shift it,it has to just run it’s course. Of course Tom’s sore throat is all my fault,I had it first so I am passing it round.

The three of us are sitting here like general hospital,the only really fit one among us is Roy,our grandson but he hates to feel out of it all so we let him suck his lollies and drink his lemonade as if he is a walking wounded.

We are all drinking plenty of liquids,but Tom’s chosen fix it all is strepsil lozenges.

These are bought from any chemist and there are many different varieties I think Tom was a bit surprised when he found this out so he played safe and bought the original sort.

There are lemon and honey,blackcurrant,menthol,black cherry,and original.

Anyway back to the one Tom has it is round similar to a boiled sweet,and red. They come wrapped in a box which contains 12 strepsils in a protective plastic cover there are two lots of 12 in this box and you pop them out as needed.

I tasted one with him and they are quite pleasant but seem to deaden the mouth,I haven’t taken enough to let it affect my throat but Tom assures me his throat is feeling a little numb. The box itself is square and white with a picture of a red strepsil on it and the words strepsils in large black letters. Underneath this it says original medicine for sore throats.

On the back of the box it tells us how strepsils work,they provide fast and effective relief from sore throats and mouth infections as each lozenge contains a combination of two ant-bacterials to fight the infections which cause sore throats.

There is a warning that it could be unsuitable if you are intolerant to carbohydrate and may occasionally cause allergic reaction,including asthma. This is more common if you are allergic to asprin.

I can’t see much of any particular ingredient,they contain peppermint oil,and lots of other oils so I would recommend anyone thinking of buying these should read the back of the box first or better still ask the chemist.

Tom swears they are making his throat feel easier and they are a pleasant tasting sort of cherry I think. I would take great care with chidren as they could easily choke on one and it does warn against this.

All in all I will recommend them as Tom certainly seems happier now the recommended dose is one to be sucked every two to three hours.

They are £3.25 from the local chemist but if you shop around you may get them cheaper.

    These are good, before I had my tonsils removed when I was a teenager, I used to suffer so much with really bad sore throats and colds, I remember they were very strong, but they definately worked. cherubs.

    These are great and very topical seeing as i had a painful throat last week. These help numb the ache so much. Nice one Pat, another great op. Cheers, Craig.
