2.0 S.Turbo (Automatic)
Advantages: Comfy, Quick, Spacious, Capable Disadvantages: Thirsty
I've owned my Silver (W reg) Forester for 8 weeks and so far I have not been disappointed. It had 52,000 on the clock and one female owner from new.
My wife and I recently covered a 3200 mile journey from the UK, across France, Belgium, Neatherlands, Germany, Austria and Hungary ending up in Romania - where I spend 12 days travelling around.
We averaged 95mph all the way across Europe and drove for an average of 12 hours a day. It didn't faulter, ... ...Octane fuel in from Belgium onwards - which I must admit the car loved. This averaged out at 1.40 euro per litre - not cheap but I get 98 octane for that back home.
In Romania...
We went up big, winding moutain roads and down them - no problem!
Bumpy, bouncy country roads - no problem!
Gravel tracks and muddy tracks - no problem!
This car handled pretty much the worst Romania could throw at it and it came out on top. That said don't be silly ...

Forester XTN 2.5
Advantages: Japanese Built, comfortable, roomy Disadvantages: a bit thirsty
The car we picked was an ex showroom car and had less than 20 miles on the clock and was registered four months ago. This I think is probably the best way to buy a new car as you get a huge amount knocked off the price. (It also beat the budget too!)
This car handles extremely well, it is responsive when you need it to be and if you are not careful will have you in the back seat with the acceleration.
Features of the XTN include Sat Nav, Climate ... ...the steering wheel. The japanese seem to have thought of pretty much everything here and it's an extremely comfortable car to drive or as a passenger. It also has little heated sections to stop the wipers from sticking to the screen when its icy, everything is leather even down to the trim on the doors, and it has four compartments in the floor space in the boot so you can hide things away when parked up. It also has a Thatcham Category one alarm ...

Subaru Impreza 2.0 WRX bug eye
Advantages: Performance, handling, image and torque. Disadvantages: lack of interior comforts, styling (love or hate)
If speed is your thing then their are few choices that make sense on Britains roads. Sure there are alot of machines out there that absolutley fly when its sunny and dry but you could probably count on one hand the cars that can cope with average climate of pouring rain with brief periods of freezing ice and snow.
With permanent AWD and handling that could out turn a bobsled, the impreza is up at the top of that list. All the electronics that propel ... ...at speed all work to keep you out of those hedges and ditches.
On the motorway in 5th doing 70, plant your foot, wait a few seconds till you reach the boost and bang, your gone. Leaving most things 100 yards behind you with their ears ringing from the flat four boxer engine. Drop a gear and you'll cure that bad back with a lovely massage from a recaro seat pushing you to towards the lost licence zone.
Like most things, there are some sacrifices ...

WHY IS OURS THE ONLY ONE IN EUROPE?
Advantages: Looks. Character. Comfort. Performance. Handling. Ride. Space. Equipment. Strength. Rarity. Disadvantages: Rarity. Costs. Alarm. Smoke
...of motoring faith that is Subaru ownership. Whilst the Impreza is a common enough sight, the Subaru Legacy, in any model shape, is extremely rare on UK roads. Our car, the Legacy Diesel Saloon, actually appears to be unique. It has now been with us since 26th September 2008 and has covered 11,000 miles driving through no fewer than seven countries; in all of those miles we have not seen another single one! Can our pearlescent white diesel Legacy ... ...explain what it is. The Subaru Legacy Saloon is a four door, medium size, family saloon car that will comfortably seat five people. It could be compared in size to a previous model Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Vectra or to any number of Japanese Saloons such as a Mazda 6, Toyota Avensis or Honda Accord...... ......oh yes, the Honda Accord, the very car that I traded in against this one. Unlike any of these cars however, the Legacy, like all genuine Subarus ...

...heads were turned to my Subaru in preference to the black convertible BMW (lots of numbers etc) which had boarded at the same time.
I have changed the oil twice since purchasing, through choice, £50 a shot with filter and the cam belt which cost £250. My job requires lots of daily town driving and £45 usually lasts 2 weeks including fun weekend driving.
I'm rarely baited by boy racers but recently embarrased a Porche Boxster from a standing start, ...
