...ladies and gentlemen to Mistress Subaru Impreza STi Type UK - Prodrive.
Like the "experienced" woman, her looks are not to everyones liking, but there's just something bewitching about her, your just not sure. Somtimes she's a bit like the snake in The Jungle Book. From some angles she's stunning, and others are less flattering.
Taking things slowly everything seems to be OK, as you get to know one another. ... ...was all the fuss about? You cruise along making idle chit-chat, thinking all the rumours you've heard are untrue.
As the end of the night approaches, we start to see the first stretches of open road. She casual whispers in you ear - "Go on, you know you want to" Having abondoned all sensible thought process by this point, you suddenly become a bit firmer (with the throttle!).
Got involved with this car as a bit of a joint venture with my brother-in-law. We bought it new at the start of 2004. The finance behind the whole thing are a bit strange, but that's not too important right now, essentially I own everything from the rear seats backwards!
Confession at the outset - I'm quite "into" cars, but I'm not a car freak. I can tell you:
What I like to look at.
What I like to drive.
How reliable I want it to be.
How comfy it is. etc
But I could not tell you a double overhead cam from a pair of rear bushes! If my car breaks down I may as well look in the glove compartment than under the bonnet - no point in kidding anyone other wise. It's my brother-in-law who know's his stuff inside out. We both like rallying therefore the obvious link to Subaru. I was also seduced by the sheer unadulterated power offered by this beast..
If I can equate the whole experience to being a bit like the scarey, attractive older woman you meet on a night out when you're younger, and have had a few pints. You know the one that you've heard stories about from your mates. You know you really shouldn't, because she's likely just to chew you up and spit you out, do you a lot of damage and teach you things that you had no idea existed. Welcome ladies and gentlemen to Mistress Subaru Impreza STi Type UK - Prodrive.
Relaxing in each others company, you think - what was all the fuss about? You cruise along making idle chit-chat, thinking all the rumours you've heard are untrue.
As the end of the night approaches, we start to see the first stretches of open road. She casual whispers in you ear - "Go on, you know you want to" Having abondoned all sensible thought process by this point, you suddenly become a bit firmer (with the throttle!).
She starts to make slightly louder noises in your ear. You are slightly excited at her prompt response, so you push on a bit harder. The noise is starting to get more interesting, she is now starting to make some delicious moaning and growling noises, and these are getting louder and louder. Undeterred by the enthusiasm and niavety of youth you decide - what the hell, what can possibly go wrong from here, I've got her eating out of the palm of my hand, she's just a big pussycat - I'M THE MAN - WHO'S YOUR DADDY - wait to I tell the boys about this tomorrow.
Then all of a sudden she turns from the submissive pussycat in to this incredibly aggressive tiger, the clothers are off, she has been unmasked.
"Now young man - you belong to me" she roars like an evil witch in your ear. You are paralysed in fear of the complete power that she is exhibiting. You now know that you CAN'T handle this beast. You're now VERY sorry for thinking you had balls big enough to take her on. You're really, really sorry and begging her forgiveness, but she's not finsihed with you yet - oh no. You want to get back to the safety of your mates, and pretend it was all a big misunderstanding.
She has essentially left you in the equivalent of Glasgow City Centre at midnight on a Saturday, completely naked, with not one ounce of dignity left. But you're happy just in the knowledge that you are alive, and you promise that you won't think you can play with the big girls again, if she just leaves you alone. Please let her leave you alone.
That my friends is Miss Prodrive. Dabble at your peril.
Now the techincal stuff.
An absolute monster of a car, packing just under 310BHP. You can get to the National Speed limit in under 5 seconds. If you want to know what this type of acceleration feels like, the next time you are on the motorway, pull into the outside lane and stop, and then wait for an Articulated lorry to plough into the back of you at 50mph, this should give you a slight insight.
My brother-in-law on the other hand is a DRIVER. He can tell you every nuance of the car, he spec'd it, has been working on getting it setup correctly. We upgraded the wheels to the 18" OZ Racing Prodrive models. These come with Pirelli P-Zero Neros. Feedback from him - the Pirelli tyres are terrible, especially in the damp or wet (we live in Britain remember) these are currently being replaced by Bridgestones. Buy as big, and as wide tyres as you possibly can for this car. We also had the Prodrive springs put on, however it could do with being even lower. It does tend to dip a bit at the front on the corners (on the limit).
The Prodrive Performance Pack, consists of an Engine Management Upgrade, an improved fuel pump, and a freeflow catalytic exhaust. This is fitted AFTER the car has done 1,000 miles.
Consider how close you are to a garage selling super unleaded, he's had this baby down to just over 12 miles to the gallon! I swear that you can actually watch the fuel gauge going down!
I could never do any justice to this car, it's simply incredible, and the biggest problem I find is that 99.9% of people will be in the same boat as me. My brother in law is in the 0.1% - which I can only assume means he went out with some serious women in his time.
Advantages: Unbelievable performance with room for the family Disadvantages: Noisy, uncomfortable, license loser
I've had two Subaru Imprezza Turbos now, a 2000 model (x-plate) and the newer-styled WRX from 2001 on a y-plate. Despite the newer model feeling slightly more tame than the old one and being a little easier to drive on a daily basis, one thing remained constant between both of them: you become a different person behind the wheel of this car.
Normal human beings, people who'll buy you a pint when they see you in the pub, stop to say hello to you ... ...and their luggage. The Subaru is a full-sized family saloon with an ample boot which can comfortably hold two sets of golf clubs. And even fully loaded, the thing can still move; with five full grown adults in the car it was still difficult to unnerve the car in the corners.
So here we have a car that is approaching Porsche or elderly Ferrari performance, that can fit your entire family, is Japanese (so is ultra-reliable) and costs just a smidgen ...

Advantages: stupidly quick, boosting (that sound), handling amazing, looks great, Disadvantages: on this model lack of ABS and Air con this is not standard though!
This was a 1996 Japanese import that spent its life as a Japanese street racing car. It was the race altered edition of the WRX STI. This meant it had no sunroof, no electrics in the front ie. windows and wing mirrors, no ABS and no air con. It did have a double din stereo and it did have a 5.5" straight through stainless steel exhaust. It was stupidly modified in the engine department and it did have creedy boost gauges. This car was brought from ... ...is a very rare car I have only ever seen 1 other like it. However, due to more imports coming into the country and the price for these beats being between 9-11k I thought I would write this review. This car kicked out 345bhp and went from 0-60mph in between 3.5 and 4 seconds. Don't believe me I have the evidence in the form of many scared friends who can testify. I had the car for a very short space of time. The garage who sold it to me tried to ...

...The geeky boffins at subaru probably spent more than a few sleepless nights figuring what diameter would give the best results which is 16" by the way your probably thinking your skate board has bigger rims right?!
anything over 17" is going to to make it handle like a boat!

SUBARU IMPREZA, say that to most teenage boys and they will drool longingly for they wish they could have one even near to them. I am lucky my father bought his about 2 years ago and we both have not tired of it yet. All i have to say to my friends is Impreza and they go and hide, crying for the day they can get one.
This however can be a down side as Impreza often goes before who is driving it, yes you can go quick, ludicrously quick if you want ... ...that. The boot is enormous we used to have a Range rover and the scoobies boot is bigger than that!Helpful as my dad is one of them sad old men who enjoy the most boring of persuits, fishing, as it swallows his kit (and thats no mean feat). However being a sad old man fishing all over the country who drives to all corners on business as well it would be handy if we had a refinery in our back garden as the car drinks like a fish.
For all those amateur ...

...writing a review on the subaru impreza because i had to go to a business trip and they paid me to rent out a car so i chose the subaru impreza.
subaru is a very fast car and it drives like a beauty however there are downsides on the subaru, such as there is plastic everywhere. however the advantages make up for the disadvantages. the subaru is very quick in a straight line but the best thing about the subaru is it can go quick around corners. the ... ...on my knowledge however the subaru impreza is very reliable and could be used as a family car. this subaru like every impreza looks stunning however i dont like the new alloys. This is a great car to kit up. however i would leave it like it is. If i had a subar impreza i would try to get the big spoilers as they look better and get it in blue.

It has to be said that the Impreza Turbo, as a rally car, has rewritten the record books in the past decade, but I'm here to talk about the road car.
Just like the rally car, the road car has had its fair share of success. 1999 saw the Impreza take the JC Power/BBC Top Gear Manufacturers' Gold Award for the second year running. Now this has to say something about the car and the potential that comes with it. As well as this it has won Japanese car of the year many times over.
The Impreza Turbo shares the same flat four 'boxer' engine and the perfectly linear All-Wheel Drive system with the rally car. This means that the Impreza road car has huge amounts of power and grip. However, unlike the rally version, the road car only has around 218bhp. Nevertheless, this car is no slouch when it comes to delivering the goods. Subaru claim ...
Advantages: 0-60 in 4.2 secs, top speed over 150 mph, Disadvantages: Epensive service costs, low MPG
for a short period i owned a 1999 sti type ra (know own a type r sti4)
These cars are excellent cars dropped staright from the rally to the customer. these cars can out perform many cars at price you can't argue with.
From standard (these are import only cars) they kick out 280 BHP and can easily reach 330 with very few modifications. The car has a very nice burble from the exhuast which is the impreza trade mark, some people dont like it and can be fixed with equal length manifold.
These cars handle like go karts becasue of thier 4WD it is excellent for handling and needs a little experience and getting used to. the car feels solid, the suspension doesn't bounce like crazy over humps and you can barely feel the humps. It does not have ABS and A/C as this is the light weight edition ...
