I brought my legacy in late 2000 it already having 85,000 on the clock, I've tried to destroy it but failed, lol

Owning this car since I was 20 I subjected it to the typical lead foot of someone of that age and as you can expect it's rarely of the red line, 75,000 miles later the only problems I can report are a rusted cat requiring a new pipe, both rear shock aborbers needing replacing at about 135k miles, a new lambda sensor and the backbox is only starting to leak despite being stamped 1995, and is the original part I suspect.

Tyre wear is pretty even, lasting about 35,000 miles a time, although the outer edges of the tyres seem to wear faster, caused by exhuberant cornering.

Paint and bodywork is variable, the paint seems soft and panels easy to crease, I have many 'door dings', yet it has stood up well to rust. I gouged the sill heavily about 5.5 years ago and there is no sign of rust. this must be due to heavy galvinisation the paint also seems to get thinker and less smooth below the door trim and again on the sill, this must help keep the body rot at bay.

It's a highly practical car, the boot fits all and sundry and there's plenty of space. It's a comfortable car to drive, having done sussex coast to up north, scotland, wales and the west country many times. The engine is smooth and quiet and drives as well with 4 passengers and a full boot as it does when it's empty. The suspension copes very well with heavy loads leaving plenty of bounce. Though body roll is induced by carrying roof loads but I guess this is the case with any car.

The only major failing is the cost of ownership, it's been maintained mostly by myself saving on labour but fuel and insurance costs are a killer.

I'd buy again, I'd doubt i'd even look at another marque, I'd fancy a GTB import from japan this time round but not looking forwards to group 20 insurance.

MOT Report: dec 06

needed new windsreen(stonechip) and rear discs corroded. tail pipe mention earlier was advisory. (10 years and over 150k for a backbox, is this a record?)
