First things first. It deserved 3.5/5 but 4 seemed overrated so i gave it a 3. I am not a fan of vampire flicks but i decided to give it a try seeing the astounding critical acclaim it received.
Its a very different vampire story, especially in the way it is treated. Its not about killing and the crave of blood that drives this film, but an innocent love story which takes centre stage. The backdrop of a frozen neighborhood somehow gave this film a surreal feel.
Full marks to the writer for the characterizations,especially the boy, who is shown to be troubled and bullied in school. It certainly makes a deep impact and you feel that he needed a companion like the girl, who would give him courage to stand up against all odds, and even protect him if required.
